Coffee question

We have Starbucks drip in our kitchen and Starbucks drip & espresso in our cafeteria. I've always been a big fan of their espresso (certainly not the best I've had, but it's good) however I really dislike their drip coffee which I find to be quite bitter. For some reason the espresso tastes smooth and slightly sweet, not bitter at all.

I make my own coffee at home in the morning and that's pretty much all the coffee I drink for the day. I buy the 5lb bag of Deans Beans Moka Sumatra. Is that considered bulk? 😀 I've tried a couple different roasts of Green Mountain coffee and it is also very good.

Just curious, however...what's with repeating that "Starbucks is over-roasted" bs.

Let's be honest and quit repeating FUD.

It may be over priced, it may be over-hyped, it may be overpopulated, but no; starbucks coffee (of which their are several blends/roasts) is NOT "over-roasted."

McDonalds coffee tastes better.

It doesn't taste like anything. Someone bought me one from there the other day and I thought they had just put brown food colouring in some water. Just terrible. I feel the same way about Tim Horton's coffee.

I know for a lot of people, it's more about just having something during the day that gets them out of office. I used to take coffee shop trips all the time with colleagues, more as a reason to just get away for a bit than anything else. If Starbucks is all that's around (true in most cases), then it will have to do.

People that don't really like coffee or simply don't care about the quality will drink anything, so coffee at the office is fine. For the most part, I'd argue that the vast majority of coffee drinks don't actually know what real coffee is supposed to taste like.

Starbuck's did change over thier main blend to something more drinkable, so I occassionally go there since we have one downstairs in our building. Being in Seattle, however, the choices within a block of my place of work are many and varied. Lately I've been going to Seattle's best. Yeah, I know it's a Starbuck's unit, but I like the coffee and it's slightly cheaper.

My office is really small since it's a satellite office, so we have one of those k-cup machines with the single serving coffees which is really good. It's also using filtered water through a PUR filter. Good enough for me, it's a lot better from what I've had in the past!
