Believe me it's not my PC. If you take a look at the thread mentioned in that article you will see even people with extremely high end PC's are having the issue. Not to mention I can run MW2 at Max w/ 8xAF.
infinityWard used a modified version of the Doom 3 engine. Treyarch did not.
I think that our government needs to come up with some consumer protection laws regarding video games. If a game is said to be playable on certain hardware, you meet those requirements, and the game still doesn't run properly, you should be entitled to a full refund.
You know, that's actually a pretty good idea. Doing something along the lines of what MS did with movie rentals on LIVE.This could all be fixed very easily with a rental system through Steam. It's not as if the technology to do this isn't already there. Let me rent the game for say $10 for 3 days and then apply the rental fee towards buying the game once I've had a chance to test it out.
Oh forgot, DRM is about artificial controls setup to milk your customers and leave them with no recourse for a refund. How dare I suggest DRM could be used for good!
Black Ops uses basically the same engine as MW2. They're both based on the IW 4.0 graphics platform.
edit: the "lag" problems for most people are clearly not engine-related, as the lag seems to be present before the engine even gets around to rendering it.
If I cannot max out MW2 with 4870....trust me, it cannot be done with 8800gt......
Yeah, it seems to be happening to a certain subset of users, not everyone. It has been happening to me. I flipped on the in-game FPS and watched as I targeted people. There is no noticeable drop (constant 70 fps), which is what many others have reported too. My only guess is that it has to do with their network code, maybe bad interactions with a certain set of network cards because you can see the stuttering, but the framerate doesn't decline.
The other area it is noticeable is during kill cams, where the cam is completely lagged out and drops frames, despite the fact that the engine runs at constant FPS.... the only explanation I can think of is that the data that is coming to the rendering engine is already lagged out somehow.
Very strange.
I thought they were two completely different studios. I knew that Infinity Ward bought the ID TECH 4 source code from ID and modified it for their needs. I didn't know that TreyArch had any relation to Infinity Ward. I thought IW owned the engine, so it's not like TreyArch gets free use of it. Perhaps they licensed it to have some kind of continuity in the presentation of the game. Aka.. why reinvent the wheel..

It's not netcode only thats the issue. A lot of people, myself included are having low frames, and stutter in SP as well. I've tried all the workarounds and nothing has made any difference so far.
Like someone said, they're both owned by Activision. Both games use essential the same engine with some different modifications. Supposedly IW's version was much better with textures and Treyarch's version is much better with lighting. In the end it all looks the same.
Damn, that sucks. I'm assuming you ran MW2 on that same computer with no problems?
For a company that supposedly spent months play-testing the game, they sure have had a lot of problems.

Once you start watching the movie, you had 24 hours with it. Of course it would have to be a different setup for pc games. I don't see downloading the entire game as an option. There's the piracy issue.
Maybe having a level or 2 for sp, and a map for mp. Have it as a $10 rental and $5 would go towards the purchase (they'd never go for the whole $10 towards purchase).
Of course, if something like this were to happen then we would see the end of free demo's as we know it now.

You guys haven't thought this through.. What you are describing is a demo, we have those but they are getting rare. Nobody is going to pay to rent a demo.
Most games can be beaten these days in just a few sittings, so why would they let us rent them for $10, beat them in those few days, and never buy them?
They already do this for console games. What's the difference if they allow it on PC as well?
I found the problem guys....
Treyarch!
