I keep seeing it advertised and touted at various race expos recently, so I picked up a six pack at Fresh and Easy Wednesday. Amy and Brian, All Natural Coconut Juice.

The market it to combat dehydration and to replenish following a race. Figured I'd try some.

Yuck. This stuff tastes awful and leaves an odd after taste. I think I prefer plain water or orange/lemonade.

Is this the same as coconut water? I don't mind the taste, but it's given me a slightly upset stomach every time I've drank it. Seems refreshing otherwise though.

I think its strongly brand dependent on whether you will like it or not. Some brands just taste very off. You have to consider the source of the coconut and how the water was harvested. I would avoid the cans and look for brands that use the tetra paks as that usually indicates the coconut water was packaged at the location of the coconut harvest.

Also I'm biased towards brazilian coconuts they have a much sweeter and refreshing flavor with no noticeable after taste.

One brand that I particularly like is Coco Samba, they are the best coconut water I've tried and closest thing to a fresh coconut by far.

COCO SAMBA Brazil's PREMIUM Coconut Water, 11.2-Ounce (Pack of 12)

I bought a case of Vita coconut water on amazon last year, drank a bit of one and never opened another they are still in the fridge. My sister loves them though.

was it a flavored one? They make a flavored one with like pomegranate or something and its seriously repulsive. Some people just don't like the taste I guess.

Coconut water companies make big claims - it's a fine source of hydration, but not of electrolytes. I think it's high in potassium, but has no sodium which is really what you should be worrying about during endurance exercise. If you're not completing endurance exercise > 45min, you don't need a drink with calories or electrolytes in it. Just water.

This was just the normal one, and from the reviews i read sounded like most people liked it.

Didn't like it at first, but it's really grown on me. I prefer fresh young coconut, but the unflavored Vita Coco's or Naked brand are great to chug after a night of heavy drinking.

Isolated because that made the perv in me laugh.

Vita with pineapple is alright, haven't tried any others I liked. Either way, kinda pointless unless you really like it. IMO
