Coakley-Brown Senate Race in Mass on Jan. 19 - Dems could LOSE 60 seat Majority !

"A Republican victory here would be a catastrophe—Democrats would lose their 60th vote in the Senate, health care could die, and the Republicans could block pretty much anything they want."

"And Republican Scott Brown? He's a "free enterprise advocate"5 who thinks the system works just fine. But he's giving Coakley a serious challenge. He promised, "As the 41st senator I can stop a lot of this stuff in its tracks....I can actually force them to go back to the drawing board."

"And the race is further confused by the presence of a 3rd candidate, named Joe Kennedy, who isn't related to Ted Kennedy, but is a tea-party extremist."

Thank you, Move On, for the information.

Bottom line - this Mass. special election is a potential game-changer.

Joe Kennedy's website - in case you want to email him to ask him to withdraw from the rates, and to encourage his supporters to vote for Brown, with the objective of seizing the moment to stop Obama-care.

"Rasmussen says that the results are 50% Coakley to 41% Brown, which doesn’t sound so good for Brown."

So spamming for Brown are we. That and trying to get a person to drop out to win. Yea thats republicans for ya.

You might want to correct your title to include the word "lose."

I saw Scott Brown in an interview on TV last evening. He seems rational, but he spent an inordinate amount of time harping on how independent he was from the Republican Party. Guess he has to, to win in such a blue state.

With Democrats holding a 3 -1 registration advantage in Mass, it certainly would be a stunning win if he overcomes those odds.

Of course the Democrat machine in Mass and the Senate will hold off swearing in Brown (if he wins) for almost a month. They claim its due to wanting spend time to count all the votes first (yea, when have Dems ever been interested in counting ALL the votes).

When Nikki Tsongas won a special election for a house seat 2 years ago in Mass, she was sworn in 2 days after the election....just in time to put in a vote to override a Bush veto.

Aint going to happen. Every second of Coakley's life has been properly vetted,,,,10 times over. Squeaky clean.

And I am sure that Brown is a homophobic racist.

Wait for it......

It seems that having 59 vs 60 seats doesn't mean that the reps can do whatever they want. Nevertheless, a "bulletproof" majority couldn't happen no matter who Reid bribed. Oddly enough the Reps haven't really supported this guy all that much. Tactical error on their part.

Its interesting, a few months ago you wouldn't have seen a Scott Brown sign anywhere, and that annoying Cockley was everywhere...

Now brown signs are pretty common, at least up by where I am...hopefully he can pull it off, I know he is getting my vote but as others have said the dem machine is pretty entrenched here with the unions and what not making it a tough nut to crack.

Remember that Mass has a R governor. So the state is not lock step with the Kennedy clan

Its still difficult to believe that Brown can pull it off, if nothing else he has a tea bagger nut case that will split the Republican vote. So we must somewhat ask that other question, will the GOP become national hero's or goats by becoming champions of gridlock?

I somewhat doubt that question will be answered in blue State Massachusetts, but given the fact that the Senate is dominated by old fossils, there is a good chance that question will be posed again when some other senator dies or becomes disabled before the general election of 11/2010.

But given the lack of lock step organization of the democrats, does a 60 seat majority really matter?

In my minuscule mind, it may boil down to the voter's perception of health care reform
as it passes from various House Senate conference committees and soon becomes the law of the land well before the elections of 11/2010. And if the American public sees immediate benefits, the GOP may well become national toast come 11/2010.

actually, i'm a lifelong Democrat.

there's nothing Democratic about Obamacare - forcing people who were satisfied to pay cash for their health care, to buy health insurance - when they get better care paying cash ?

like Harry Reid admitted, Obama-care is a HUUUUGE gift to the health insurance & pharma. companies. the same companies that created the ridiculous system (described in Michael Moore's movie Sicko) in the first place.

Obama doesn't even have the guts to admit that in the not too distant past, America had good health care. the only thing is, doctors made less money, there were no health insurance companies, and pharma companies were a fraction of the size they are today. but it was affordable for working people.

I figure that stopping the agenda of the Liberals is progress. Do you agree?

i agree enough to vote AGAINST Dems who voted for Obamacare, in the 2010, 2012, & 2014 elections.

and there are millions of Democrats who feel the same way.

what the Repubs have to do to get our vote - find & run candidates like Brown who will do what is necessary to stop Obama-care. which may not be easy, because the Repubs. tend to work for the same corporations as the neo-Democrats.

Joe Kennedy is by far the best candidate running for us right now. If you're voting for D's and R's, you're voting for the same bullshit again and again. Have you even looked at Kennedy's site at all, or listened to his positions?

Not sure hoe long in the past youre talking about, but physicians have been making less and less money for about 30 years now. And of you want to go beyond that, you couldnt do half of the things you can today back then.

Wingnuts entertain demented fantasies, again...

It's nice to dream, huh?

I remember when they were crowing and raving about a permanent majority, too... about the "Ownership Society" brought about by deregulated banking and a lot of other fantasy...

If the usual repub big money contributors thought Brown had a chance, his campaign warchest would be overflowing, but it's not.

Go figure...

This leads me to wonder how many tea-bagger nutcases will be running as third party candidates in 11/2010, and what that will do to the repubs across the board...

HOLY SHIT! The guy echoes my views verbatim on most things! It's freaking eerie. He seems like a real rational guy, a lot of conservative views, and also a lot of what might be seen as liberal views (largely decriminalizing and removing federal interference with state marijuana rules). Focusing on domestic security at borders rather than wasting $ overseas, etc.

I think my favorite part was his piece on gun control. He doesn't want guns personally, but that doesn't cause him to want to take away everyone else's rights. The willingness to go against his own personal preferences in exchange for public liberties is so refreshing. And with a CS degree, he'll know more about computers than everyone else in Congress combined.

The thing that shocked me was that he's a 'Tea Party' candidate, but his views are probably anathema to most of the bandwagoners who hopped on that confused movement in pure opposition to Obama and the Dems. Reading his views, he's utterly opposed to pretty much the entire GOP status quo as well (41% increased gov't spending under Bush, massive foreign policy entanglements, nanny state regarding Marijuana, lax border control, etc).

Hee hee hee, the republirats and Dick Armey have created a Frankenstein monster by creating the tea bagger movement. And now that same tea bagger movement is now biting the GOP far harder than it ever bit the democrats.

And now we have a situation where the much of the mainstream GOP leadership is in a race with tea baggers to represent only the lunatic fringe part of the GOP electorate.

Leaving the rational part of the GOP electorate totally homeless and disgusted.

But cheer up, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, and Sarah Palin are happier than pigs in shit, as they busily pretend their whole three votes will win any election.
