no, that is not what I am thinking about. I think its something like a hit-and-run law, where someone knows another person is in harms way, and does not stop to render aid.

Yes. I don't know the specifics and they likely vary widely by state, but I know in at least some states you can be charged for failure to render assistance after an automobile accident.

Maybe the law that governs auto-accidents does not apply to other types of distress?

I'm not familiar with specific laws but I can't imagine someone being compelled to provide medical assistance. I'd think it would be more along the lines of making a good faith effort to notify the authorities.

Makes sense. All I know is that I've heard of people being charged with it. I don't know specifics about what is required. I'm also not suggesting it relates to this incident.

either way, manager was right. we have 911 for that people.... we don't spend hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars every year for nothing. remember, when seconds count, help is only minutes away.

With any luck you'll be surrounded by people like that manager one day when you're in mortal danger.

lol time warners legalize corporate speak response. Corporations are psycho's

"Time Warner responded appropriately to a medical emergency. Our company has procedures in place to respond to emergencies. We are saddened by the loss of one of our employees who was a co-worker and a friend. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time."

Employees tell us Time Warner does offer CPR classes but we've learned, CPR may not have been necessary to save Julia Nelson's life.

That's because a heart defibrillator was right down the hall. Hanging on the wall of the first aid room.

One problem. The door was locked. And we're told the only person who had the key was out of the building.

^Time Warner's emergency procedures.

Okay, I feel duty bound to point out something that apparently the entire thread has missed.

How on EARTH do people attribute this to a problem with corporations?

That's a sanitized version of GET THE FUCK BACK TO WORK 😛

You really can't with the information given, but its not unreasonable to think that its a good possibility that the corporate nature of the business creates a strict environment that might make a mistake like this..Follow the policy..Follow the policy..Follow the policy...

On a side note, I would have told the guy to fuck off and go handle the customers himself. I kinda see fault with the guy who listened to this jackass. That is not to say that the fact that the guy died was his fault, just that if he felt the guy needed CPR, I dont understand why in the hell he would listen to a supervisor.

1st) the person told to get back to work (and did) is a disgusting
2) the manager that told them to get back to work needs fired

Are you just purposely being dense? Its corporate culture. The little guy means jack shit.

Are you out of your mind? This is ONE Asshole being an unmitigated fuckhead and you guys politicize it to this extent?

There was a sexual assault at Occupy Dallas. That's it. Verdict's in. The Occupy culture cultivates fucking pedophiles.

Why do ordinary people torture someone to death when told to do so by an authority figure??? A large percentage of you will do so.

You obviously don't have a clue how the real world works in Corporate politics do you?

Trololol... Those damn repuglicans - if an asteroid crashed into the Earth, you'd probably blame it on them too.

I'm quite aware that, due to government regulations and our sue-happy society, companies are likely to institute a policy of calling 911 and waiting for the trained paramedics to arrive because they don't want the liability on their hands of having an employee provide CPR, whether it was successful or not. The boss was probably following company policy, a policy instituted to comply with government regulations.
