The debt doubled in the last 8 years... where was the protesting then?

Spending is actually going to average americans now and they protest? Makes no sense and therefore you can't expect them to be taken seriously.

Congress blew it by not regulating markets that caused this entire mess. Congress also blew it by issuing bailout money to big business to keep them from failing from the mistakes they made. I think it is funny when the left cant figure out that of the 1.4 trillion in stimulus we have enacted in the past 8 months the majority of it is going to big business and wall street. They still hold onto this idea it is magically ending up in the pockets of middle america.
Trickle down economics. ;)

So is it a valid economic theory or not?

The reporter didn't hear a Daily Show talking point so she cut him off, and you're here bashing him because he sounds like he's just spewing a talking point. Your type of dishonesty is what is turning this country into a shithole because you actively seek to trap others in your own stupidity.

Fact is, 99.9% of the morons at these tea parties have not had their taxes raised, instead they'll be benefiting from a tax break under Obama. Like I said, they have no f'ing clue why they're so pissed off other than the fact that Fox News told them to be.

Then you are 99.9% incapable of thinking for yourself. Unlike your typical liberal who can't see ahead for more than 2 hours, conservatives see a dark cloud coming as Congress and Obama are spending our children's children's money in taxes. Taxes WILL go up. If you had a reliable news agency you would easily know what they are protesting, but instead of you limit yourself to only batshit crazy liberals who wouldn't tell the truth if their life depended on it.

Ok, so if the only argument you guys can make is that people didn't care under Bush.. then Obama gets a free pass.. I guess then in 4 years if a Republican wins he can take the deficit to 30 trillion or 40 trillion and thats fine because the democrats didn't complain about Obama?

How does this argument make any sense? Oh, thats right.. Obama's giveaways are stimulus and good spending and Bush's spending was bad evil spending.

Did you even read what I wrote?

If you don't make drinking and driving illegal, does that excuse the drunk drivers that kill people? I would blame the drunk drivers first, then the people who didn't make it illegal. I promote personal responsibility. That means that the people who made this mess deserve responsibility first and foremost. The next blame goes to the government who didn't make oversight more priority.

At the end of the day, just because something isn't heavly regulated, the ones who actually DID the damage should take the blame. They walk away with BILLIONS while congress gets the entire blame?

Doesn't make sense to me.

Blame the drunk drivers who did so knowingly, THEN you can blame the policemen who were asleep at the wheel.

Personally I think so. I'm just jabbing those here who 'change their tune' on the sole basis of which particular party is advocating it.

For your analogy to work you would first need to legalize drunk driving. Congress in essence if you use your analogy for unregulated CDS and derivative markets legalized drunk driving. They sure as hell share the blame.

Those free market republican congresses did a great job!

Not that the dems were any better really.

You are correct neither side did a good job in this disaster. Do you think either side will be punished for it?

Absolutely not, sadly. When there is no viable alternative, you don't need to change the way you play the game.

If you read my post you'd see that I blamed them, just not as much as the ones that knowingly actually did the damage and who reaped the rewards, whom which none of the people here blame at all.

So check out the video of a CNN reporter. For most liberals on here, she's probably their hero as she does her damnest to portray the attenders of the "tea party" as fringe lunatics. In one video i saw of her she makes sure to stipuluate at the beginning of the video that the people don't represent all americans. If you understand anything about subtly in marketing you can appreciate how important it would be for a liberal to say something like that before breaking to them this unavoidable story.

Then there's Anderson Cooper making the statement of "you can't say much when you're tea bagging".

I watched an episode of Family Guy yesterday on hulu where Brian (the liberal talking dog) uses his damning tone talk about Foxnews' bias. The creators of Family Guy are so openly liberal and hateful, once having the entire RNC shown blown up as a joke, that they can't for the life of them see what lies they perpretrate.

It's a huge media war going on, on one hand the left accuses Fox of being biased, which openly shows all points of view, and shops like CNN/NBC etc can't show up to 1 anti Obama or anti big government protest without pretending they're doing a comedy tour.

good for CNN!!!

The title of this thread is truly mind-bending. Fox News, I can't think of another news organization that has blatantly sponsored anything like this teabagging or otherwise. And much less such demagogue kookiness...

A Short Citizen's Guide to Kooks, Demagogues, and Right-Wingers On Tax Day
April 15, 2009, 11:36AM

No one likes to pay taxes, so tax day typically attracts a range of right-wing Republicans, kooks, and demagogues, all of whom tell us how awful we have it. Herewith a short citizen's guide (that is, a citizen's guide that's short rather than a guide for short citizens) responding to the predictable charges:

1. "Americans pay too much in taxes." Wrong: The United States has the lowest taxes of all developed nations.

2. "The rich pay too much! The top ten percent of income earners pay over 72 percent of all income taxes!" Misleading: The main reason the rich pay such a large percent is they've become so much richer than the bottom 90 percent in recent years. If you look at what they pay as individuals -- the percent of their incomes over and above the highest rate below them -- you'll see a steady decline over the years. When Republican Dwight Eisenhower was president, the marginal rate on the highest earners was 91 percent (after deductions and tax credits, closer to 50 percent); by 1980 it was still up there, at 70 percent (an effective rate of closer to 45 percent); under Bill Clinton, it was 38 percent (an effective rate closer to 28 percent).

Look at the after-tax earnings of families and you'll see what's really going on. Between 1980 and 2000, the after-tax earnings of famlies at the top rose more than 150 percent, while the after-tax earnings of families in the middle rose about 10 percent. The Bush tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 raised the after-tax incomes of most Americans by a bit over 1 percent -- but raised the after-tax incomes of millionaires by 4.4 percent.

3. "The bottom 60 percent pay only 3.3 percent of the taxes!" Misleading again. Most Americans are paying more in sales taxes than they ever have. Property taxes have also been rising at a steady clip. And Social Security taxes have also risen (thanks to the Greenspan Commission), while earnings over about $100,000 aren't subject to Social Security taxes. So-called "sin" taxes (mostly beer and cigarettes) have also skyrocketed. All of these taxes take a bigger bite out of the paychecks of people with lower incomes than they do people with higher incomes.

4. "Obama is raising your taxes!" Wrong. Obama is cutting taxes for 95 percent of Americans, by about $400 per person a year -- not a whopping tax cut, to be sure, but not a tax increase by any stretch. Only the top 2 percent will have a tax increase, but even this tax increase is modest. Basically, they go back to the rates they were paying under Bill Clinton (their deductions will be limited to 28 percent, which is only fair). And they won't start paying this until 2011 anyway.

5. "The huge debts we're wracking up will cause your taxes to rise!" Wrong again. When it comes to the national debt, as I've said before, the relevant statistic is the ratio of debt to the gross domestic product. The only sure way to bring that debt down and make it manageable in future years is to get the economy growing again -- which requires that, in the short term, the government spend a lot of money (because consumers and businesses won't). In the long term, the biggest source of concern is rising health-care costs. And that's something Obama and Congress are aiming to tackle.

6. "We have a patriotic duty to stand up against Washington taxes!" Just the opposite. We have a patriotic duty to pay taxes. As multi-billionaire Warrent Buffett put it, "If you stick me down in the middle of Bangladesh or Peru or someplace, you'll find out how much this talent is going to product in the wrong kind of soil. I will be struggling thirty years later." President Teddy Roosevelt made the case in 1906 when he argued in favor of continuing the inheritance tax. "The man of great wealth owes a particular obligation to the state because he derives special advantages from the mere existence of government."

An acquaintance from law school, now a partner in one of Washington's biggest and wealthiest law firms, explained to me one day over lunch how he and his partners use tax rules to create offsetting taxable gains and losses, and then allocate the gains to the firm's foreign partners who don't pay taxes in the United States. That way, they keep the losses here and shelter their income abroad. I noticed he had an American flag lapel pin. "You're supporting our troops," I said, referring to his pin. "Yup," he replied, entirely missing my point.

True patriotism isn't cheap. It's about taking on a fair share of the burden of keeping America going.

Yea, but how many were there because since Obama has taken office, they've lost their jobs? Or how many were there because they think that raising taxes will hurt the company that they work for and they might get laid off? Or How many people were there because they are afraid that their bosses might have to let them go because their bosses cannot afford the tax increases?

Its okay my friend. Have some more koolaid.. Your job will be okay. Your friends jobs will all be okay. Hey, did you know Obama just got a new dog. yippee!

What dishonest delusions. The debt to gdp ratio is going to skyrocket which is huge to this guy. He doesnt really address how it goes down, only goes into healthcare reforms are going to somehow help this problem. Like a new govt program has ever "reduced" the size of govt?!?!?!?!?!

Theyd thereby be strengthening the american dollar, rather than stimulating the lipton tea bag business.

I personally didnt see much of a protest - everyone was smiling, like it was one big conservative circle jerk. I saw two of these rallies on the way home.

I'm all for their right to protest, but it just seems so....odd to me.

You honestly believe you got a tax cut? Do you really believe this? Seriously? Did you not pay attention to his campaign or the recent bills passed into law?

I got a tax cut. Whether I continue to have a tax cut is another matter, but I am now currently paying $10 less less federal income tax per week than I was before. Its not an opinion, it's math.

They're WITHHOLDING less. Your taxes didn't change. The tax tables didn't change. You did not get a tax cut. This is why everybody should hold onto their tax returns for 2008 and then compare them to 2009 and let your eyes be opened.

The withholding changed due to a tax credit. From the horse's mouth:

http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/ar...e/0,,id=204447,00.html

In 2009 and 2010, the Making Work Pay provision of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will provide a refundable tax credit of up to $400 for working individuals and up to $800 for married taxpayers filing joint returns.

This tax credit will be calculated at a rate of 6.2 percent of earned income and will phase out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income in excess of $75,000, or $150,000 for married couples filing jointly.

For people who receive a paycheck and are subject to withholding, the credit will typically be handled by their employers through automated withholding changes in early spring. These changes may result in an increase in take-home pay. The amount of the credit will be computed on the employee's 2009 income tax return filed in 2010. Taxpayers who do not have taxes withheld by an employer during the year can also claim the credit on their 2009 tax return.

I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand. A refundable tax credit is a tax cut for those who qualify, even if it's in a bit of a roundabout way.

It's spidey... he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I've heard this in several threads now, your taxes did in fact change... and they got lower. It's a refundable tax credit... ie: you don't have to pay it back.

Todays Conservatives love to Be and feel Persecuted...Their self pity seems to be a character trait..

I noticed some time ago that there is something in the psyche of todays political conservatives that loves to cast themselves as a persecuted minority. The only thing that I'd add is that it's not something that's exclusive to them. I've also noticed that religious conservatives love to cast themselves as being a persecuted minority. And, they both cast themselves as a persecuted minority even when they are in the majority. It's something that perhaps a psychologist can understand.

Jonah Goldberg continuously insisted that conservative magazines are so very, very important to the political landscape - indispensably so -- because conservative voices are frozen out of mainstream media venues by The Liberal Media, so that poor, lonely, stigmatized conservatives can only get right-wing opinion in places like Weekly Standard and National Review. In between Jonah's petulant laments about how conservative opinion cannot be heard in The Mainstream Media, Bill Kristol talked about his New York Times column and his Washington Post column, John Podhoretz told stories about his tenure editing The New York Post Editorial Page and Charles Krauthammer's years of writing a column for Time and The New Republic, and Jonah referenced his Los Angeles Times column...Nearly unimprovable, as parody. The perfect April fools joke.

In the broader view, one has to see that self pity and its concomitant emotion - resentment - must be a key psychological element of authoritarians and their followers. Never doubt the mass movements that can be grown and sustained through appeals to self-pity.

Blowhards Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly (not to mention Congresswoman Bachman) are trying like hell to whip up a frenzy of hate by using the legitimate anger of the lower classes against their own interests. Rather than point towards the moneyed interests (which make up the ruling class) as the true source of their collective misery, the demagogues are attempting to channel that rage toward the "other": immigrants, intellectuals, gays, Atheists etc.

Periods of severe economic downturn can be ripe opportunities for fascism to take root, and today is no exception.

I guess after your post I understand why conservatives feel this way. In your post alone they are referred to as:

"poor, lonely, stigmatized.."
"Blowhards"
"demagogues"

And people such as above are:

"Trying like help to whip up a frenzy of hate"
"channel that rage"

And of course all this is directed at:

"Gays, immigrants, atheists, and intellectuals" I assume by intellectual you mean someone who things like you do.

Gee, I have no idea why conservatives may feel the way they do right now. It couldn't be because of all the names and lies that the left throws out about them like you just did? Or, should I say the HATE you throw out at them? The tea parties were awefully peaceful for these people so full of hatred and rage toward gays, immigrants, atheists, and intellectuals"..

I think her actions there weren't very professional, but it is interesting that it highlights the whole difference between FOX and CNN. Fox news' bias is purposeful and systemic, CNN had a reporter act badly.

when the head of our government fired the CEO of a private company guess what that is fascism. try to spin that anyway you want and try to defend it but in reality there is no defense for it.

Actually in your case they're not lies.

Ahh, another paronid delusion of todays 21st century right wing - "enemies everywere" ... see how much of the modern American "conservative" movement is driven by "enemies". Myriad enemies actually. It is what drives the organized right and its media darlings I mentioned in this country.

And along side this "enemy" driven agenda is ironically, the totally innocent notion of their pureness and goodness. They are angelic sinless victims of myriad enemies. And not just normal equal enemies. But Devils and demons, liberals, leftys, and the "others" - that have absolutely no reason to hate them but that they are just evil inherently. A total lack of empathy marks todays modern American right. They are absolutely incapable of seeing anything from the perspective of their enemies. The loyalty of the True Believer is a Marvel to behold.

The Right Has Become Eric Cartman...

In the recent "Fish Sticks" episode of "South Park," Cartman becomes increasingly convinced that a joke he more or less stole was really created by him. At one point when complaining to Kyle, Kyle responds "I believe you. I believe you think that's what happened," and he goes on to explain to Cartman that the only way evil people can continue to do the things they do is that, in their heads, they genuinely believe their warped version of reality. And, of course, as the episode continues, Cartman's memory of the original joke writing session grows increasingly askew, and as it does, he becomes more and more convinced that a wrong has been perpetrated against him rather than the other way around -- until at the conclusion he accuses the wronged party of the very act he originally committed.

Really, you couldn't come up with a better metaphor for the conservative movement in this country now.
