why cant you just hope that the next 4 years will be good times for us all? maybe you hate america and cant see past your party politics

I'm not a member of any political party.

Typical rat jumping from the sinking GOP ship.

What the fuck? I registered to vote in 1992 and have NEVER been a member of a political party. You can, quite simply, go fuck yourself.
Who gives a shit what you're registered as. What matters is how you vote.

Don't worry; a lot of your rodent brethren jumped ship weeks ago amid their despair over an Obama victory.

Nothing like a good old-fashioned political discussion to get people who may get along just fine on any other topic to get at each other's throats and start acting like the worst dregs humanity has to offer. My congratulations to Obama, and good luck with the road ahead.

Working for the city and the fire department, I obviously don't do drugs and rarely ever even drink. But I do get to deal with the effects of drugs on emergency calls quite a lot, unfortunately. This forum is a great example of the effects of long term use of mind altering substances on many of the posters.

Yes, I thought McCain gave a great speech but his supporters were being shitheads for the first few minutes. After awhile it seemed that something came over most of the crowd

"Oh shit... Obama won. He's the new president. Well, I disagree with him, but McCain seems to think he's a good guy. I guess he has my respect for now."

I was glad that they stopped booing after McCain kept having to do that arm thing.

I agree, that was the Mccain I liked 8 years ago. He gave a hell of a concession speech and it hurt to hear whoever the drunk fratboys were in the crowd that couldn't be solemn for 5 minutes.

I would have voted for Mccain over Gore in 2000, but never got the chance and after that election and what happened in the republican primary he was pitted against Bush. He bucked a few times, but shortly into the Bush presidency, the Republicans smacked Mccain down hard and made him make nice with Bush and behave. Mccain was never the same after that. He had to make too many concessions to stop the attacks from the far right of the party and the fundies.

When it came to his campaign it only got worse. He finally got to run for president and I don't feel like he got to make his run for it. He had to appease too many people on the far right, was forced by the RNC to flip on too many of his positions that most appealed to independents and ended up watered down.

This

McCain used to be awesome, but the Bush administration turned him into a little bitch. I would have voted McCain had he maintained a track record of being fiscally conservative, but he left that ideal behind so fuck him.

We just exited that exact scenario, Bush is your Carter, and Obama is the wave of change and common sense - we have had revolution.

Hopefully it comes without excessive federal spending this time :p

That's what has worried me a lot the past 8 years. I really try to be accepting of other's political views, but when people vote for Bush/Cheney twice in a row, and then so many voting for McCain/Palin, I just can't understand it. Got me pretty worried. Hopefully Obama will do well in getting the "two Americas" working together again.

That's the only hope I have - Obama getting the repub's and dem's working together... the politicians and the ordinary citizens. If we can create policies that the majority can agree with, I'm fine with that and will commend him for that. I have no desire to despise the guy no matter what he does, but the policy ideas he, and the democrats in general, have suggested and support, I do not agree with. They have a few policies I've been intrigued by, and may support, but the majority seem to social in nature.

Don't be a bigot though. You first try and play nice, stating you 'really try to be accepting of other's political views', and then go and bash those very same views.

Got something to say? I voted for Bush the second time (could not vote for the first election, though McCain had my support, and I despised Gore, so Bush was the choice sadly). Couldn't stand Kerry, and I felt the public had *mostly* wrongly placed blame on Bush for his first term, when in reality in was the entirety of Congress.
And I voted for McCain this time, because I knew Congress would be a Dem. majority, could not stand Obama's socialist agenda (this is exaggerated sure, but some of his concepts are too social), and his policy ideas seem to have a desire of once again, placing power in the Federal government that it should not have... and wasting money on social programs.
McCain would have been a better choice, seeing as balance is necessary between the administration and Congress - the two sharing the same party and ideas just makes a mess of things (goes for both parties).
I claim no partisan allegiance, nor should anyone. It leads to terrible voting habits and having a blind eye toward potentially better candidates.
I favor some republican ideals, as well as some democrat ideals, although admittedly with far less weight in my heart. And I believe greatly in many Libertarian ideals, specifically smaller government (Federal), if only because it goes greatly against the Constitution. In that respect, I also have Constitutionalist ideals too. And to summarize, I am very much Moderate. I am in no part Socialist though, despise all social programs and feel they are a waste of Federal money. Let social programs, if they are to exist, exist in the States, for they are ones that are Constitutionally have that power. Federal government turned it's back on the Tenth Amendment quite some time ago, and has continued to do so.

Seems I am in extreme minority with my political views though, as the entire country continues to accept all these radical changes. Nobody cares about the USA. Bunch of bastards all of you, turning your backs on the Founding Fathers - I share a bloodline with one of them dammit!

I don't think Obama is that radical. In all honesty, he's said a crap load of stuff. He will most likely accomplish probably 20 - 30%, and probably not to the extent that he said during the campaigns. Here what I expect from him in the next four years,

1) Leave Iraq in clean, responsible way.

2) Set Afghanistan on the path towards leaving that country. I don't think he will be able to solve both wars, but at least if the path towards leaving is set with Afghan, then thats fine with me.

3) Lower the annual deficit to <$200 billion. Asking for a balanced budget in four years is insane. Realistically, its not going to happen, but cutting the annual deficit from $400 billion to $200 billion seems reasonable and within reach.

4) Also, I would like to see some money put towards infrastructure in the US. Everyone keeps talking about the energy crisis, but if we were to replace some of the high voltage power lines that are aging, we can recover some of the power lost through transmission through just advances in metal science that have occured over the last 40 some years. It's a fix that we can do now, while other techs come online. And would do leaps and bounds to assist in fixing the crisis.

Overall, I don't these are outlandish expectations/requirements to him getting my vote again 2012, though maybe a bit on the low side. This is just the bare minimum.

Nice to see 17 pages of hate. Everyone knows that's what Americans do best!

I'm just fucking happy I won't be hearing anything from the religious right for at least the next two years. Thump your Bibles all you want, the second you try and shove one down my throat I'm kicking your ass.

 Here's to the GOP waking up and us getting a truly fiscally conservative and socially centrist party I would actually vote for

I do accept your political views :) - Al Gore and John Kerry were both grade A dopes and ran really bad campaigns, which campaign was worse is a tossup. Bush is also a dope of course but he had the great Carl Rove on his side. I never had much faith in Al Gore or Kerry, but Obama is different. Obama is the leader we need. Bush is sure going to leave him with a big pile of shit in his lap, but I couldn't think of anyone better to be the president, and I think Obama will do a wonderful job. Obama, like Bill Clinton, is very intelligent. Would be nice to have an intelligent person (or as some rednecks might say, "elitist".) as our president once again.

It's also hard to understand why Bush's approval rating is so low but so many of those people who don't approve of Bush voted for McCain/Palin. Quite a divided country we live in.

I keep thinking of that south park episode "I'm a little bit Country" :p
