I agree with some disagree with other....

Madden Football? :p Why do the Americans believe that the whole world cares about "football"? Do you watch Champions League? Do you play PES? :p
I wouldn't put HALO in there either, regardless of how much I enjoyed it myself...
As for Everquest I would prefer to see Warcraft or CnC in it's place.

And for Gods sake wheres Unreal? :p

While I enjoyed Halo and I understand where other people are coming from on here saying it shouldn't be on the list - I think it should be there.

Here's why: I know a bunch of people who were not gamers until Halo came out.

These guys didn't have computers or consoles, but Halo got them on board. These non-techies would be hauling their XBOX's and projectors around to peoples houses just to get some 8 on 8 action going. I don't know exactly what it was about Halo that did it for them (I had tried to get some of them into Counterstrike years ago, it didn't work). Some of them have now graduated to WoW, but they all still play Halo 2 regularly together.

Looks specifically like a "most influential games of the past 10 years" list.

In that case: Hello? FF7? If they put Halo on there, FF7 should be on for the same reason. It really kickstarted that generation. As tiring as it gets to hear about it, it was an important game for the PSX.

Also, Mario 64 was probably more "important" than OoT, and maybe take off MGS (which seems like a lame duck next to the others). Then I'd agree.

Disagree. Though it's not for everyone, it's a truly innovative series of games that is a lot of fun. The only reason I quit playing it was that it eats time like nothing else.

Well said. But seeing Starcraft at #2 almost makes me feel better about how much time I, to this day, waste on it.

Sheesh. Ever hear the word "sandbox"?

So many of the C|Net items are so full of stupid errors, it reads as if it was written by someone who learned of these games by reading third-hand stories by people who heard about games from someone else.

In an era when the world of shooters was dominated by online titles such as Quake II, Half-Life offered gamers an amazing story-based experience.

Huh? 1998 was still mostly dial-up era and Quake 2 had a SP campaign. Sure HL took it to the next dimension and deserves to be on top of this list, but come on.

The gameplay itself was so addictive that players often played the game through three times just to experience it from the perspective of all three races.

Someone else caught this, but it bears repeating: Playing all 30 missions isn't the same as playing it three times, stupid! Playing KOTOR once Light and a second Dark is playing twice.

One of the best-looking games ever to be released, Quake...

If "best-looking" means "lots of brown". BZZZTTT!!! Unreal was the first "pretty" game - not counting Riven - with its lens flare and shiny floors.

Any list is open to debate, but judging from the article, lists are better when they're written by people who know what they're talking about.

Overall, not that bad of a list.
yah, some of the comments were just retarded.

Personally, I would replace either Quake or Halo with Unreal (can't decide which one yet), and Sims with FF7.

I've never played OoT, so I can't speak for that title

You can't clown on Quake because it was the first major online FPS. I remember sneaking into my friend's office at like 9:00 PM and playing Quake on their fractional T1....back like almost 10 years ago.

The NiN score was also a big revolutionary step in music in FPS games.

Well, I'd question "ever to be released" but you have to remember Quake was the first game to utilize a 3d card with the QuakeGL release when the 3DFX Voodoo came out. Also, Quake's main competition at the time was Duke Nukem which still relied on sprites where as Quake was fully 3D. It was MASSIVE jumps for its time, similar jumps just havn't happened since.

But of course, multiplayer doesn't count

You Stupid Moron.

Hes not saying multiplayer doesn't count on the list.

Unless I failed English, he was being sarcastic that multiplayer doesn't count which means that if multiplayer HAD counted, Q3 and UT2K4 should have been in the list.
