Sadly had he stayed in the car, he would be alive and well.

Makes you wonder, after seven days of not being rescued, do you still keep staying put or do you go out searching for help?

This is awful....

He will be sorely missed in our community.
I remember his great personality and intelligence from his TechTV days.

Condolences to his family.

I've been following this story religously. I'm sad to see it end this way.

🙁 Condolences to his family.

i think digg itself is being dugg to hell right now with the news

Rest in peace, James. 🙁
Damn, man. DAMN. Old school with TechTV and made it to CNET. Did reviews so the masses could understand.

I dunno. I'm just not eloquent enough for any worthy tribute.
Damn.

Any word on how he died? Starvation? Froze to death? Hypothermia?

No official word. Most likely hypothermia. Searchers had found that he had started to shed clothes about a mile from the road. A source in one article attributed a sense of warmth to a sign of sever hypothermia, saying 'it was not a good sign'

I'd put my money on dead, 10:1 at least. No food, no gear and no experice in these temperatures is deadly, especially after that long.

He didn't make it. Happy? You won your bet.

Why would I feel any emotion towards it? I didn't know the man and neither did you.
The odds of him surviving where virtually nill.

Good point, but basic humanity causes me to feel for the family. As a father of two girls close in age, it's easy to relate how horrible the entire situation can be.

Yeah I feel bad for the wife and kids, that's a really bad ordeal to go thru. But I did expect he wouldn't be able to survive given the equipment and environment.
