here is how steve putit ;)

Let me just put my little spin on this here?and it will make more sense. Less than 5% of all PC users are MAC users?. 89.4% are PC users. So if we use 1000 people as a target number that means 50 people out of every 1000 that own a computer are use a MAC and of that 50 people 35 are college educated. Of the same 1000 people, 894 are PC owners and of that number, 485 hold college degrees.

Oddly enough, a recent study of all college graduates concluded that exactly 35 out of every 1000 college grads still live at home with their mothers past the age of 50?.coincidence?? No?they just Think Different. I guess it is all in how you look at it, now isn?t it??

Those who surf the Web using a Mac tend to be better educated and make more money than their PC-using counterparts, according to a report from Nielsen/NetRatings

And the Mac faithful are 58 percent more likely than the overall online population to build their own Web page and also slightly more likely to buy goods online, according to the report

-thier criteria for being "smarter"

Dam, i'm a genius then, wait, i do it on PC, i'm just average then.

My take on it is that Macs are so much more expensive compared to PC's on relative price to performance comparison, that only those who are college educated and making good money can afford to spend the extra money to buy a Mac. To compare the two is stupid, that's like saying Porsche owners are more generally better educated and wealthier than Honda Civic owners. That falls into the no sh!t category for me.

The better comparison would be to take people with similar educational backgrounds in the same income class, and see if a clear trend of that universe of computing consumers favors Macs over PCs exists. Somehow i doubt that would be the case, but ya never know.

They probably make more money, cause you gotta be rich to throw your money into a Mac. They sure ain't smarter though, as they pay 3000 dollars to surf the web, when an e-machine would do the same job.

100% of PC users are PC users. 5% of PC users happen to use a Mac.

Its not as smart to use a product that is more expensive, but easier to use? Im not saying Macs are easier to use than x86 machines, just that many of the Mac users know Macs better than x86 machines. By your reasoning, anyone purchasing a Windows operating system would be stupid... While I *may* agree with that, there are plenty of people on these boards that wouldnt ;)

I meant in general :) Obviously not most on this forum. But try arguing computer hardware with an average Mac user. They will just tell you what Apple marketting has been fed them. While an average PC user might instead admit they don't know a whole lot about the subject.

Ive talked to plenty of "dell users" that tried to do something stupid on a pc. Or argued that one brand processor is better than another in all situations, or that a fast cpu is much much more important than lots of ram. Ive also talked to people that put their own machines together (or atleast tried) that bought 5400rpm hard drives because they didnt know any better.

Most of the Mac users Ive met (a small amount) know plenty about hardware and software. In fact, I think many of them are more knowledgable than many x86 users I know...

Anyhow, its not a given that Mac users are complete and utter morons when it comes to computers (or anything else ;)), and x86 users are computer gurus.

In the article it talks about surfing the internet. If someone buys a mac to surf the internet, then they are pretty dumb. Mac's use Netscape which it functionally the same as the PC version, so why not use netscape on a cheap e-machine?

If I sound anti mac, I am. Mainly because of those stupid mac commercials going around. I especially hate that network administrator guy, as if he would prefer a mac. Apple prey's on ignorance to keep themselves around. I hope Steve Jobs gets crushed by a shipment of dell computers.

The article beyond the title does not try to say that Mac users are smarter, but that they have a higher level of education. Which on average is true due to a number of factors including higher average selling price, the number of graphics artists and desktop publishers that use it, and the status symbol effect that owning a Mac carries.

I'm not sure what this sh*t is meant to accomplish, Apple, aside from pissing me off.

The Mac users I know don't like the Switch campaign any more than I do. And, I've got to be honest with you, I didn't know this kind of crap was still going on - indeed, I thought it was over. I thought that the front in the techno-cultural war had progressed to moving between Windows and Linux, God knows I must endure hearing about it, and that human beings by and large simply purchased a PC or a Macintosh based on personal preference or prior experience or whatever else. Anything aside from the implied difference between what a "real" or "smart" person would do, which has been Apple's motif for as long as I can remember. I don't find the neurotic caricatures selected for these ads compelling in the least, they're not realer, they're people I want to avoid at all costs, examining my own life to systematically eradicate any similarities I might find between us. They are avatars of a corporation, not some kind of social movement, inheriting at full volume the smug superiority that Windows users seek to return in kind.

Everyone who has ever brushed up against this issue is well acquainted with the major arguments for each side, but I'm simply not fascinated with the prospect of investigating it here. I think it's boring. I'd imagine most people just think it's boring. And if people on both platforms can play Warcraft III native, well, what the fsck are we talking about this for? Mac gamers are no longer martyrs, and it's actually possible to enjoy using Windows anymore. The whole thing is stupid. If Apple really wanted to sell more Macs, they should just show people how it looks when you minimize sh*t in OS X. I thought I was going to pee my pants.

Wrong. Thanks for trying. Mac OS X and Mac OS 9 come with ie installed. Oops. Now, if Macs were a better deal but all you knew was Windows, would buying Windows be worse? No, because that is what you are comfortable with. BTW, Macs are Personal Computers. :)

Stop paying attention to advertizing. All advertizing is stupid. Dont let it bother you. I stopped getting pissed at your buddy Steve trying to sell Dells.

You may have noticed the name at the bottom indicating that it wasn't my writing. I should have used quotation marks I guess.
