CM13/Android 6 sucks.

I purchased a Nexus 5 in May 2014 and immediately put CM11 on it and loved it. CM11 is based on Android 4.4.4. It's clean, professional looking - very intuitive. It's all business and that's what I love about it.

Well, after two years I decided to replace the Nexus 5 as the Nexus 6 was selling for $299. So I purchased one, received last night and immediately put CM13 on it, which is based on Android 6.0.

Holy crap does it suck.

For starters, the UI took a major jump back as far as professionalism goes - either using CM13 or straight Android 6 - it looks like shareware from days gone past. It looks horrible. I use my phone for work, it's not a toy. I guess Google and CM don't get that.

The Nexus 6 itself is a fantastic device, but I'm wishing I can go back to at least CM12... I know CM11 is not available for my device - shame.

How about some constructive, detailed criticism?

Exactly what is so 'unprofessional' about how Android 6 looks? Does it actually impede you doing work (in a real, tangible way, not just a look preference)? And if so, how exactly. Is any previous function actually missing?

Personally, I've never given much notice to how Android 'looks' so much as am I able to achieve the tasks I want with it, using the apps I need. I'm glad others obsess over the details, just not my thing.

With mobile OS's, to me, function WAY out trumps form- it's why I look at iOS and don't give a fig for whatever is supposed to be better design with it- I just see an icon grid with less function than a proper launcher, and less function in apps I need, proper file system, etc. I find function way more 'professional' than mere form.

But I'm curious what about Android 6 is so different. I'm still rocking lollipop on my Note 4 and all is well.

You lost me immediately, OP. It's Android. Get a launcher or customize things to your liking.

Not everyone is going to like UI changes. I'm sure there are people here still complaining about XP being too Fisher Price (and they are free to use the classic Windows theme). Personally I don't have an issue with how CM 13 looks.

Android has always been butt ugly and reminded me of a sourceforge project looks wise. Without Nova or some launcher I wouldn't be able to stand any version of it. Nova with a good icon pack and I'm happy. Stock Android? couldn't do it. And while I haven't actually seem Marshmallow's UI to judge it. Every previous version was tacky looking so I'd expect more of the same.

Of all the launchers, and skins, etc that I used, the stock HTC One Sense UI on my M7 was the nicest for me. Super smooth and looked pretty good.

Uh, there isn't a shocking difference between CM12 and CM13, so what are you talking about exactly? And what everyone else said, too.

So, if I put CM13 on my new nexus 5x, it won't check with my provider before turning on a wireless hotspot, right?

I think he's talking about Material Design, considering he said he's been using CM11 and KitKat.

I don't think it does. It hasn't has on the providers I've used, anyway. Before using CM I would use FoxFi to get tethering, but I haven't had to do that in a while.

Cool. I was loving the nexus 5x and then I tried to tether my surface pro and the nexus said 'no, call your provider '

I tried a bunch of apps, but none of them worked.

That's the best part of CM11... it's BASIC.

CM13/Android 6.0 is trying to be all fancy, it just looks/functions horribly.

There are carriers that still charge extra for this? AT&T just started packing it into my regular plan a couple years back

I was hoping that cyanogenmod would fully develop cm13 for my old galaxy note 2 so I'll just have to stay with cm12.1 lollipop which works way better than the original KitKat 4.4.2 ever did on it.

My favorite part of all this is that OP couldn't even put Nougat on their phone. Go through the effort of unlocking and flashing just to put an older version of Android on the device than is officially available.

I can kind of see where OP is coming from, but I still disagree personally. However, I am curious to know if they think Nougat is an improvement or not.
