The culture of the south was slavery and people got offended if you questioned them back then because they believed it was their divine right based on their religion, no different than how some cultures today it is acceptable to beat your wife, honor kill your daughter, kill gays, physically assault anyone question those customs and traditions, etc. because they believe it is their divine right based on their religion.

What is different is how many supposedly progressive liberals defend that culture/religion even to the point of throwing women, gays, free speech, etc. under the bus for their favorite sky fairy religion/culture while having no problem criticizing any other sky fairy religion/culture.
