The Federal Election Commission

I didn't see anything in there having to do with the basic qualifications?

Fern

Article II of the Constitution.

Yeah I understand that. I thought you were linking those forms to demonstrate that the FEC vetted the qualifications. But the question isn't even asked on those forms.

Whoever. whatever agency reveiws the candidates qualifications should have spoken up by now to say that they've been approved, no?

I think if whomever/whatever approved the qualifications would speak up much of this nonsense would disappear.

As it stands now, it appears "nobody is minding the store".

Do we have a *hole* in the process where no one is responsibe for verifying this info? If so, I guess court is the natural place.

AFAIK, McCain was here before the United States declared independence so his place of birth is irrelevant.

Now that was funny!

Gotcha, sorry.

My understanding is that it's not different from say a tax form. You sign it agreeing that you know the law and are qualifying yourself.

The FEC reviews it. If fraudulent they can send it to the DoJ for criminal prosecution.

Once you're elected President, you decide what's true and what's false.

Two great ones in the same thread!

Shoot, if you're going to jump off the conspiratorial cliff how about this: This lawsuit has been planned for months. The case will somehow be heard just before the elections, the plaintiff will win and Obama will be disqualified. Race riots will ensue in all major metropolitan areas and a National Emergency will be declared. NSPD 51 kicks in, elections are suspended, GWB stays in office and martial law is declared. "If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator." - GWB

I mean if you're going to but into this stuff, dive all the way in man. Perhaps this is why the Clintons have been so quite since Hillary conceded.

Anyone with the price of the filing fee can file a lawsuit. But my guess, a court will dismiss it as frivolous unless there is excellent proof of the claim. And when it comes to a political party, any court will be very reluctant to touch their rules.

So I look for that one to go no where fast.

Both of his parents were US citizens, McCain was a citizen automatically no matter where he was born.

It's not the citizenship that's the problem, it's whether or not he's a natural born citizen. I was born on a fucking plane because my parents wanted me to be born somewhere. I've alway been an American citizen but I don't think I would pass the natural citizen test.

He was born on American soil. That makes him a naturalized citizen.

McCain? No, he was born on an American military base. Only an embassy is considered American soil.

If your parents are citizens you are natural born regardless of where you are born.

Neither are considered American soil for citizenship.

Should we engage in more then two pages of unfounded speculation and ridiculous debate, or should we take 30 seconds to look up what factcheck.org has to say about it? The answer apparently: Pages of debate!

They totally demolish this ridiculous rumor.

From the link:
Of course, it's distantly possible that Obama's grandparents may have planted the announcement just in case their grandson needed to prove his U.S. citizenship in order to run for president someday. We suggest that those who choose to go down that path should first equip themselves with a high-quality tinfoil hat. The evidence is clear: Barack Obama was born in the U.S.A.

It appears to be a real lawsuit, but is not yet on the electronic system so I won't hold my breath until it is actually confirmed to be a real court case.

The timing of Obama's recent trip to Hawaii is curious and the fact that FactCheck.org is owned by the Annenberg Foundation where Obama was a chairman make for an interesting correlation to his newly authentic birth certificate.

Overall, I rate this moderately interesting, though I somehow doubt anything would come of it unless the Clintons themselves get their entire machine behind it. Too many people vested in Obama now to let a technicality like this get in the way.

This kind of crap ranks down there with arguing over whether or not planes really hit the WTCs on 9/11.

Heh, I was just thinking that. What's funny is that some of the people who are rightly dismissive of the 9/11 conspiracy theories are being just as stupid with their totally gullible belief in this nonsense.

I hope you know you sound a lot like the people who think "jet fuel can't melt steel" is an argument that the WTC was blown up with explosive charges. I'm just saying.

Do you REALLY think that if there was something fishy going on, Obama himself would be the one doing it? It's believing in that special combination of cunning and stupidity that separates a real conspiracy nut from the wannabes.

Maybe obama orchestrated the attacks on 9/11 so he could distract everybody and put his fake birth certificate in with the good ones?

HMMMM? How about that? HMMMM? It's possible.
