Hillary Clinton reacts to the Orlando shooting massacre, saying she has no problem with the term "Radical Islam". All of a sudden Donald Trump is no longer out of the mainstream.

But wait until tomorrow. Her views can change on a dime. Just like Donald Trump, you would probably say. Sorry Progressives, looks like you're out in the cold in less than one week after embracing her.

Who is Hillary Clinton? Don't worry. Progressives keep moving Forward! Too late for Pres Obama and Sen Warren to withdraw their endorsements. Both will just have to swallow this political incorrectness and hate speech. Can't wait to see how long it takes Warren to fall in line and take up hate speech herself. This is like Saturday Night Live!

I have to admit, Hillary is a very shrewd politician.

Hillary? "Something something ISIS... Something something arm "rebels".... Something something REGIME CHANGE IN SYRIA!"

Her foreign policy is all hawk... against governments.
If terrorists sow chaos in Egypt, she'd work to topple the Egyptian government too.

Ah, she finally uses the words the right has such a boner for and now she is "all words." :D

She does have a proven track record...and her war in Libya worked out really, really well. So why not? Move over Dick Cheney, this is the kind of foreign policy experience Amerika can really believe in!

Radical Islam is so different from "extremists" or "fundamentalists" because reasons.

Good news though, we finally have a concrete definition of what it means to be hard right: say radical Islam. Or at least say you have no problem with the term...

Newsflash... she has always been hard right. She is a neocon who wants to buy leftist votes with handouts.

The famed military-industrial complex must be licking their chops at the balance sheet turbocharging they'll get during a Hillary presidency and her Vegas over/under line of 2.5 wars started.

Well, the problem with any of these political strategies to magically eliminate IS or otherwise radical Islamic terrorism at large is simply that such a task is impossible by conventional means, and perhaps impossible overall. Over time, these movements have morphed toward less and less centralized organization or even uniformity in agenda, now to the point that social media and other devices are providing candles for wayward moths which cannot be snuffed out. IS is a movement, not an organization.

Even on the ground in the middle east, there are many actors with shifting alliances, each of which are being fueled by aid from superpowers. The real tragedy though are the people who once lived somewhat unremarkably in places that were once more stable. They are being denied access to basic needs, and even humanitarian groups cannot safely provide them aid. So they are faced with a conflict of "if you can't beat em, join em" wherein they will be brutalized, starved, killed or otherwise terrified for trying merely to live, and joining a wayward cause gives them the promise of power, provisions, and purpose (even if that purpose is merely to cast your suffering to another).

I haven't really said much about this before because, honestly, I have no idea how to address it. And, despite what I've said being more detailed than what I'm hearing from our political candidates, it's something I have little confidence in my own knowledge being sufficient to comment on.

Nonetheless, I've chosen to do so in the hopes that we might actually care about what happens instead of who to blame for failing to stop it from happening.

I don't know which is worse, the Bernie concern trolls or the right wing hypocrites.

My money for worse is on the lack of concern from Hillary supporters. You would think at least some of them would find this mildly alarming given her consistent history of hawkish interventionism.

They're overlapping subsets of the same mindlessness. ISIS is no more Islamic than The Lord's Resistance Army is Christian.

Trump hasn't talked much about his foreign policy. Right now it seems either to ban everyone that may be a threat and wall up the US with Trump or keep intervening in the middle east with Clinton. Neither are ideal. Do we change who we are fundamentally or do we continue to kill people in far away lands? :\

Although Trump has said he will "bomb the shit" out of them.

This.

The whole premise of this thread is classic Political Correctness. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but Words will crush me into a bloody pulp!

I am completely alarmed that Hillary has no problem with this "hard right" term. Can you please help me determine what to do with all this outrage? Should I go buy a gun and some paper Muslim targets or something? I'm going to modify my CR-V to roll coal this weekend.

I don't understand your first sentence. On your 2nd sentence, please understand I carefully used the word "Shifts" in the subject line. That is not a concrete definition of being. On my having no problem with the term, you are damn right.

You still have not commented on your reaction to her statement. I think that the Bernie supporters, like yourself, will avoid commenting. That's why I inferred about them. They are choking on Clinton's words. Her usual supporters will probably chime in to say that this is no major change from her past policies. In other words, her words don't count, but Trump's do.

No need, just get a DI gas engine and put out lots of nice particulate that CARB and the EPA know all about (but curiously fail to regulate effectively). See? You can pretend to be better!

how is it a shift or a flip-flop or whatever to say that the specific terminology doesn't matter?

From my perspective, it matters what we do more than what we say. And it mattered we got bin Laden, not what name we called him. I have clearly said we -- whether you call it radical jihadism or radical Islamism, I'm happy to say either. I think they mean the same thing.

the whole jihad vs Islam thing just seems like an absurd right-wing talking point.

I know I'm responding to sarcasm. That said, what do you think we ought to do about actual terrorism aside from stop getting our panties in a wad about what we call it and who calls it what and why?
