Not his fault. He's being traded around. Indians traded him to Philly, Phils traded him to Seattle, Seattle is going to trade him to NY.

NYPost reporting that the Yankees are close to landing Cliff Lee for top catching prospect Jesus Montero.
I've been a Yankee fan since I was conceived. I was a Yankee fan in the '80s when they sucked and fought it out for 5th in the division every year. I'm not a front-running, bandwagoning fan. I remember Tim Leary, Lance McCullers, Steve Trout, etc. I realize that this is not a free-agent acquisition and that the Yankees are not outbidding everyone else for him, they are actually giving up a top prospect they developed for years to get him. That being said, I hate this move. Enough is enough. Do we have to field an all-star at every position and every spot in the rotation? Yeah, I realize under the current rules there is no reason not to, but it's sucking the life and joy out of baseball as far as I'm concerned. And what's the plan after Posada is gone? It won't be long now before he can't catch at all. Francisco Cervelli is exceeding everyone's expectations, but can he really be expected to keep playing at this level after he's never done it before in the minors? What then, will the Yankees sign Joe Mauer? I can't take it anymore.
I also hope it's true because the Yankees are seriously overpaying.Oh, gotcha.
Alvaro Espanoza, Don Slaught, Jesse Barfield
Seriously though, I finally got turned off when they signed Jason Giambi. Part of the fun was wathcing the epic showdowns between the A's and the Yankees every year in the playoffs, that just ruined it.
I still watch the games and root for them, but I don't have any kind of passion for it like I used to.

his fault for outright refusing to sign a contract w/ any team he's been with. the phils did a decent job trying to retain him, but in the end he still wanted to test free agency. i thought we gave up too much in that trade to seattle
Uh, no. Mauer just signed a huge extension this offseason. They are, but who cares? They'll just sign Joe Mauer.

At least Yankees fans are starting to admit this.
It isn't fun for other teams. Sport is supposed to be about competition and excitement. The Yankees are assisting baseball in having neither.
I don't understand how any Yankees fan can be excited about this or watching this team though.
Part of sport is the unknown, the competition...coming down to the wire.
The only unknown for the Yankees is whether they'll sign Albert Pujols and Evan Longoria next year and have them backup their current starters for days they need off.
They might as well sign all the best pitchers in the league and have them each pitch one inning.
Uh, no. Mauer just signed a huge extension this offseason.
suck what? really, they don't suck. what you meant to say is I don't like them. maybe you've extended that to hating them, but they don't suck.
Wrong, they do suck. With the roster they buy, they SHOULD win it every year and they haven't come close. They've won 1 world series in the last 9 years. Thats as many as the Angels, Cardinals, Marlins, White Sox, Phillies and Diamondbacks. They have almost twice the payroll of most of these teams.
Yankees suck.....period. They're probably one of the worst teams in baseball in terms of wins to payroll.
Absolutely. That's why everyone outside of NY hates the Yankees.
No, people outside NY hate the Yankees because of their obnoxious bandwagon fans. Same with the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, etc...

Yeah, but payroll does not guarantee wins. It's still a game that has to be played. sure, payroll makes it easier to win, but it does not guarantee it. The Yankees have a huge payroll, great players, and still dont always win. The Mets are an even better example. They have a huge payroll and haven't won jack. Does it mean they suck? Maybe, but I think it means that it's still a game.
Quite true, and I'm sure theres something to be said about pressure on players playing in NY. Aside from that though, when you have the best roster from top to bottom and have only won once in the last 9-10 years, thats pretty sad.
I respected them more in the 90s when many of their players were homegrown. Theres no glory in trying to buy championships. I would feel the same as you did if my team did that and it would take away from the idea of working for it.
Lebron can win 10 rings in Miami, but he'll be remembered as the guy who couldn't win it without Wade/Bosh. The Celtics basically bought their championship too from a couple years ago. I respect them for winning, but they won't be remembered as great.
Having said all that, it is a business and they can all do what they want.
So why hate the Yankees? Hate their obnoxious bandwagon fans. I know I do.
