Cleopatra was actually ugly!

Cleopatra was not the goddess that most people thought. In reality, she was actually quite ugly. We know this because her image is on ancient Egyptian currency. 🙁

In another note what happened to the History Channel? I tune in to watch history, and instead I see Chumlee on Pawn Stars. 🙁

You do realize this was a marble bust we are basing this off of right? That is not exactly an accurate depiction of what anyone looked like.

Caesar was a fairly handsome dude. He slightly resembled Paul Newman. 🙂

As far as Roman emperors go*, I'm partial to Hadrian. 😀 Besides being a well-rounded emperor, he rocked the beard before it was cool:
Another of Hadrian's contributions to "popular" culture was the beard, which symbolised his philhellenism. Since the time of Scipio Africanus it had been fashionable among the Romans to be clean-shaven. Also all Roman Emperors before Hadrian, except for Nero (also a great admirer of Greek culture), were clean shaven. Most of the emperors after Hadrian would be portrayed with beards. Their beards, however, were not worn out of an appreciation for Greek culture but because the beard had, thanks to Hadrian, become fashionable. This new fashion lasted until the reign of Constantine the Great[28] and was revived again by Phocas at the start of the 7th century.[29]

* Not that I really like any of them, including Hadrian. Most of them were terrible people and killed many through wars and persecution.

I like how your own link never makes such a claim:

Cleopatra may have been beautiful, ugly, or somewhere in between. Certainly, she was intelligent, a good diplomat, and queen of an area important for Rome, so it is no wonder that leaders of Rome like Caesar and Mark Antony, would fall in love with Cleopatra, while another Roman leader, Octavian (the future Emperor Augustus), would fear and revile her.

This. I watch H2, but Ancient Aliens and America Unearthed is pissing me off.

And then the Military Channel is the American Heroes Channel (AHC) and they play mob/mafia shit. WTF does that have to do with military shit?

We pay all this money for cable and there ain't shit on. I find myslef watching the news and [Adult Swim] on Cartoon network more often than not.

I miss USA's carton express. 🙁 Actually, I think USA was the network where I used to watch Macgyver and Quantum Leap.

Television doesn't have many good educational or news programs anymore. Online lectures, podcasts, articles, studies, and of course books (or audio books) are all better. The few decent channels with actual history or educational material (besides public television) usually are on the more expensive cable packages, and it's just not worth it to get/keep those channels.

Everything good is going to the web or soon will be, anyway, especially with CBS and HBO's decision paving the way for more a la carte, streaming-only options in the future.

This is why I dumped cable about 6 months ago. With the occasional exception of live sports I don't miss it at all.
