I can't count how many times I see people with those clear turn signals with white bulbs in them. Anyone know if this is legal or not?

Not legal and annoying. They can be clear as long as they flash amber/yellow.

Hmm...so you're paying extra for lights that aren't street legal and can't be switched off..

Amazing.

Yep, and they have to be reflective too.

I've always wondered why there are both yellow and red (brake lights act as turn) signals. Why didn't they require all turn signals to be yellow if something like white is illegal ? I notice the red lights act as turn signals also in older American cars.

Because white = reverse.

Not if it's blinking it doesn't. Same can be said for red... red=brake... but not if it's blinking.

Anyway, I also wanted to add that even the most recent Caddys have red act as both turn and brake.

your missing something here;

white/amber in the front for turn signals
red/amber in the rear for turn signals
red for breaks

it dosen't get any simpler than that.

Actually, the Department of Transportation requires them to shine yellow.

Those blue wiper eyes suck. I'm 99% sure those are illegal, can't have blue lights on your car, maybe they have to be blinking to be illegal? I think they are sometimes a very slight violet tint so maybe that's another workaround, still it's annoying.

Right up there with the flashy valve cover caps.

(sigh)

it varries from state to state. in ND it is legal for amber/clear lights in the front. the link i posted above shows it's legal in oregon, read any car forum and you'll see that it's legal in just about every other state.
