IN CA it is in violation of the vehical code to have a white light in the rear of your vehicle other than to signal the vheicle is in reverse. YOu can have the clear plastic, but the BULB needs to be colored then.

So wait a sec, if you have Euro lights, you can have white bulbs up front as long as the rears are amber?

I could have sworn that when I went to traffic school (in CA) that they told me the rear can be red/yellow/white and the front can be red/yellow

yellow turn signals on the front (they MUST be reflective, and yellow too, not clears signals or reflective.. easy fix it ticket for the cops)
red stop in the back must also be reflective, and red or amber turn signals in the back only (reflective and signal)

white can only be used for reverse.

Fix it tickets range from $10 to $200 depending on the rice of the car ;)

cant have any light in the front of the car other than white (headlights) or yellow (reflectors & turn signals) and you cant have any light in the rear over the car other than yellow( only for reflectors) and red (tail lights, turn signals, and breaklights)

that could just be an Illinois thing... but i doubt it

Front turn sigs have had to be amber since 1963. Rear turns can be amber or red.

I'll be glad when this whole clear lens fad is over, it bugs the hell out of me.

I'm guessing that's not completely correct. My 92 Camry has clear turn signals in the front (bone stock). I highly doubt a company as big as Toyota would make such a huge mistake. I've never had a cop say anything to me about it and I've had a few conversations with them in that car.

Has anyone noticed that those old boxy Volvos have almost white rear turn signals? They are about the same color as regular bulbs.

There are mixed comments on legality of the color of lamp housing, but I think it's relatively consistent that the light emitted from the turn signals can't be anything but red or amber.

Why do you want Costco ceiling light white colored bulbs for turn signals anyways ?

afaik, the turn signal housing can be any color, however, their must be a reflector at each corner of the vehicle; either a red reflector or a yellow/amber refelctor. You will notice this with cars that come with clear corner housings stock, at least for US vehicles.

In CA, the front turn signal light must shine either yellow/amber or white. The rear turn signal light must shine either red or amber to the rear. Side mounted signals to which are visible to the front must shine amber/yellow.

in the front:
the bulb color does not matter. the color of the light itself by law has to be amber/yellow/white. the housing can be clear/clear with reflective back surfact (ie; old ford explorer headlights vs the new 'euro style')

in the rear:
backup - clear, although a cop isn't going to give you a ticket if you have red ones or something like that.
break/turn - red/amber/yellow, again, bulb color does not matter.

call any dealership/car accessory place and they will tell you the same thing, anything else is illegal.

God damn, do half of you guys in this thread have any clue WTF you are talking about?? Or are you just fishing this sh*t out of your collective asses?

For CA;

24953. (a) Any turn signal system used to give a signal of intention to turn right or left shall project a flashing white or amber light visible to the front and a flashing red or amber light visible to the rear.
