I thought of something. Wouldn't it be ok to use those tissues that are made for cleaning eye classes? If they're designed to not scratch then they would be ok? You could use one wet to get off fingerprints and another to dry it.

It is not about scratching the screen but removing the anti-glare coat on top of the screen. Using non recommended material too often might turn your monitor into the most expensive mirror u ever had.

I spit blk coffee at mine atleast once a month then wipe it down. This generally happens
during the reading of a thread in OT :p

True: I use Fellows anti-static wipes. They are like very large eye glass cleanibg tissues.
Immediatly the display screen is lightly buffed with a very soft, absolutly clean terry cloth
towel. This towel is kept in a Zip-Lock bag and just used for this purpose. When my
good rags are washed(by me), *NO*fabric softener is used at all because the residue
of it, in the rag will leave streaking.

I do not have a flat panel. Mit 2060u NF DoM 6/01 and not a mark is on it. Bought used three years ago. When i got it, the screen was nasty, from just setting for years.

After a once over with Fellows, the sides and bottom were masked off and it was lightly scrubbed with mild detergent and warm water. Then rinsed with clear warm water.
Masking with plastic sheet keeps water out of the inards ;)

I'm not particularly pleased with Fellows brand of tissues. When i find something better,
the Fellows will be used for hand wipes.

I use the stuff they gave me for my glasses. It's made for anti-reflective coatings on polycarbonate or glass lenses. Seems like it would be pretty similar to a CRT screen to me.

The stuff has some mild cleaner and the cloth is a microfibre cloth. Cost $3.25 at Kaiser Optical. If you have a Kaiser nearby, their optical services sell to the public and you don't need to have a Kaiser card to buy that kind of stuff.

I wouldn't use paper products on my glasses or my CRT, despite what any manufacturer claims. Not when it only cost me like 4 bucks to keep a microfibre towel in the drawer next to my workstation.

check some eyeglass places. Like I said, I got mine at Kaiser Permanente (an HMO here in CA, I don't know how widespread Kaiser Permanente is to know if they are in the midwest or eastern part of the country). it came in a little kit with a spray bottle of detergent that is said to be formulated for anti-reflective coatings.

Putting 'microfiber towel' into google laso came up with this:
http://www.bowlersparadise.com/shop/tow...ersparadise_com_microfiber_towel.shtml

So maybe your nearest bowling alley will have one :D

Auto parts stores will generally have them too, but I bet they jack up the prices on them.

Do not use Windex as it will erode the antiglare...distilled water works and any cleaner should be sprayed on the cleaning cloth not the Screen...

if you use windex you're a f ucking idiot...unless you bought a cheapie crt. most fd crts have an anti glare thing on the glass, and windex wipes that expensive stuff off. use a tad of water and a soft cloth.

Just use Windex and newspaper to wipe it off.

Johnnqq must have ruined his expensive monitor one time because he is a moron, but don't let him scare you. I did it for years to my CRTs and I haven't been blinded by some super glare that I unleashed. :D

Use coffee filters. They're lint-free. Paper towel leaves fibers all over the screen. I've been using Windex for years and never noticed any problems, I dilute it 50-50 but I can't see that being a major factor.

Windex contains ammonia. Ammonia damages certain coatings. Rubbing alcohol may also damage coatings.

Water and newspaper/microfiber should work.

omg, windex are you NUTZ??!?!? not all but certain crt's have a special spraying on the glass that keeps glare down, the strong cleaners eat away at that and can mess that layer up....do whatever you want, but i recommend water :/

Have you any experience of this or are you just repeating what you've heard? Because I've been using Windex for 15 years on about 25 different CRT's and I've never had a problem, ever.

I am using Windex & paper towels (ScottTowels) on my Mits flat screen crt with anti-glare coating for the last five years and it's still going strong. No wearing off of the anit-glare coating at all. Love my monitor!

Yes...I use to do it until I sold the CRT to someone and as we took it out to the Car and notice the screen I lost the sale...came back and check my new monitor and noticed the same rainbow streaks...none now
