Anybody have any recommendations for a good (or a couple of good) CD's of classical music, primarily violin? Every once in awhile I get in a mood for classical, but I don't necessarily want to just buy a bunch of stuff from one composer, and I'm not looking to become a classical expert, and there's SO many options it's overwhelming for a casual listener.
Basically I want just strong, "power" stuff. I'm not sure the best way to describe it, but I can always download samples to see if a particular piece is the type I want. I don't mind some slow, depressing sorts of songs, but mostly I want the type of stuff that lifts one up to hear it (the sort where the conductor gets sweaty during the concert and has buttons popping off his clothes he's moving so fast and hard 🙂). Right now I'm listening to Kanon D-Dur (Quartet) by Pachelbel (from the Neon Genesis Evangelion soundtrack) and it's very much the type that I'm looking for, but I'd also like a nice selection of different things. It doesn't have to be ALL violin, but string instruments would be nice as the focus.
I think violin is the most wonderful sounding instrument ever. 🙂
