Body Kits help acceleration.
Ram Air induction adds horsepower at 50 mph and less.
The 10 and 12 bolt axles are named for how many bolts hold on the inspection cover.
a 9000lb winch will only pull 9000lb's.
wider tires are better in all circumstances.
water-baised paint was a good idea.

My all Time favorite:
Cats restrict power no mater what.

<edit>
Opps, I missed the "classic" part of the title

It's amazing how many people I see pull off all their exhaust and just have their manifolds/headers dump, God I hate loud vehicles to start with, and it's funny when they drop 3 or 4 tenth's when they do it.

The best cars have a nice natural rumble to them, not an echo, and I REALLY hate exhaust that makes 4 and 6 bangers produce noise at all, those 2 should be total silence.

The rubber tires on your car protect you from lightening if it strikes the car.

The metal shell of the vehicle will conduct the lightening, that's what protects you.

Any truck is automatically a "4x4". I still remember the add for a "2 wheel drive 4x4".
Putting Carburators on a stock 914 engine will make it run better than the stock F.I.
Back when I was looking at 914's, I saw one that was advertised as having been converted to a "Holley Webber" carb. (Must have been during that brief period when Holley and Weber merged.

The metal shell of the vehicle will conduct the lightening.
So will the steel-belted tires. Tires are conductors, they aren't pure rubber and they do conduct electricity fairly well. I also get a kick out of the whole "Tires protect you if struck by lightning" claim.

EDIT: Just want to make it clear that I'm agreeing with Roger and not in any way attempting to mock him.

Here's a few of my favorites:

- all Chevy 327 engines are 'Corvette' motors
- 'Camaro' is actually spelled 'Camero'
- all Muncie 4-speeds are M-22 'rockcrushers'
- 4 barrel carb automatically means more power
- stock, low-compression engine + giant camshaft = good combo :)
- all nitrous setups are 'NOS'

Lots are from pennysaver ads:

- '12 volt rearend' lol
- 'posse' rear
- Celica Supra, or 6-series BMW with 'V6'
- Mazda RX-7 with '4-cyl'
- 'RARE'
- 'heathers'
- 'roll gauge'

Add your own if you like.....

The word Camaro is of the most mispelled on a Google search even though the name is one of the top five recognizable auto names in the US.

It's not surprising since Americans pronounce 'a' as 'e'. Camero is how it's pronounced.

What's wrong with that?

12 bolt

10 bolt

edit: My bad, here's the real answer:

http://www.grapeaperacing.com/GrapeApeRacing/drivetech/axlegmrears.cfm

...the bolt count is the number of bolts holding the ring gear to the carrier, not the number of bolts holding the cover on

While your right that the 12 and 10 bolt actually comes from the number of bolts holding the ring gear on it just also happens to be the same number of bolts on the rear cover..... Except in my case..

I have a 12 bolt BOP rear. Cover has12 bolts ring gear has 10. Not 12 like the Chevy. But it does have the more desirerable (sp) press on bearings and not c-clips holding the axles in. ;)

The 442 came with both 4 speed and Turbo 400s.

Saab made those in the 60's or 70's.
Yes, I know they exist - but whenever I hear "V4" mentioned, it's in reference to a newer car with an I4 :)

A K&N air filter and platinum spark plugs will make your stock car faster.
The K&N will help out just about any stock app. Might not be a noticable diff, but there'll be one.

How is that a misconseption? Assuming your saying frontwheel drive. fwd is waaaaay better than rwd in the snow and alot of otherapplications..Theres a website with a fwd mid 80's dodge caravan with a turbo 4 running like 11's. The van also pulls 4wd outta the snow.
