I've seen certain car goofs time and time again over the years....there's always someone willing to believe someone else who doesn't really know, either

Here's a few of my favorites:

- all Chevy 327 engines are 'Corvette' motors
- 'Camaro' is actually spelled 'Camero'
- all Muncie 4-speeds are M-22 'rockcrushers'
- 4 barrel carb automatically means more power
- stock, low-compression engine + giant camshaft = good combo :)
- all nitrous setups are 'NOS'

Lots are from pennysaver ads:

- '12 volt rearend' lol
- 'posse' rear
- Celica Supra, or 6-series BMW with 'V6'
- Mazda RX-7 with '4-cyl'
- 'RARE'
- 'heathers'
- 'roll gauge'

Add your own if you like.....

"Celica Supra"

Got news for you. In 1978 that was what Toyota called the car. I think it was the first year Supra was imported to the USA. I doubt I could find the dealers brochure now but I do remember looking at the car before I bought a new 1979 Celica ST.

EDIT for rotten spelling....

Well, yeah....read the rest of the line: Celica Supra, or 6-series BMW with 'V6'

The point was actually that I've seen them advertised as having a 'V6'......

These are funny, but can probably be explained by a non-gearhead owner talking on the phone to a secretary that transcribes the ads for cars, antiques, baby furniture, and Lionel trains.

A Oldsmobile 442 does not mean that's the size of the engine.
That AMC never made a fast car. 390 AMX any one?
A Mustang GT350 does not have a 351ci engine, or should I say did not come with.

-headers on an I-4
-People calling them V-4's *smacks forehead*
-Same to those who say cars with an I-6 have a V6
-FWD handles just as good as RWD since the car is 'pulled' around a corner
-Turbos have "boost" fluid that needs to be recharged (rare, but I've heard it!)

some funny stuff out there.

Ok, Ok, lemme shorten the line so you can see it more clearly.

'Celica Supra, ..., with 'V6' '

I know it's a 'Celica Supra'....the point is, they don't come with a V6.....

Definitely. I don't know how many times I wished they'd called me for proofreading, before printing :D

Actually, the 'roll guage' was supposed to be 'roll cage'

Anyone know what the 442 stood for? (Without google?) :)

442: Some say 400ci, 4-barrel, dual exhaust. Some say 4-speed, 4-barrel, dual exhaust. But of course you could get an automatic trans :)

I believe that's correct.

People calling them V-4's *smacks forehead*

Saab made those in the 60's or 70's.

"Four on the floor, 4bbl carburetor, dual exhaust" was the blurb from Oldsmobile at the 442 introduction at the NY Auto Show.

Here's some more:

chevy 283 FI was the first 1hp/cb in. V8.
corvair was a car with bad handling.
Ford's 427 SOHC V8 was a production engine.
The . on the 5.0 emblem on mustang GT's came in 2 colors. Some people say one color indicates a higher HP output.
The 426 Hemi could be ordered in a station wagon or a full size car.

It was 400, 4bbl dual , exhaust , I have also heard the 2 came from 2 wheel drive (posi).

The name just stayed when the 455 came out I imagine, although you could say it was 4bbl,4 speed, dual exhaust. Then just substitue Turbo 400 for the 4 speed.

I get a little PO'ed when some one asks me if I have " a 442 under the hood". I just say no, it's a 455, the model of the car is 442, it has nothing to do with the engine size. Either that or people ask me what year Chevelle I have.:disgust:
