I can never make their vouchers work. I tried half a dozen codes with no success.
You paid for half a dozen codes? D:

I considered buying the Steam code from a third party - I usually do. But they typically take between 4 and 12 hours to deliver, and I wanted to play on Friday night.

I think he means the discount codes not the game codes... at least I hope. I've generally had a good run with GMG. If I'm buying a game new I pretty much always buy from them.

Exactly. They always have a 20% off voucher running and I don't think I've ever had it work.

Who paid $50? Some of you guys gotta learn about Greenmangaming, and fast. I got the game for less than $40, plus a voucher for another game, plus 6 free games (all though they are crappy, indie games).

I think most of us are aware of this, but the price is still $50 retail. If they charged $40 then GMG would discount that accordingly as well.

I find if you copy and paste the voucher it doesn't always like it. So just delete the final character and retype it and it will then accept it. I think it may be registering spaces or something that confuses it.

most of those vouchers only work on select games that they're currently promoting. For example I think they have a 20% off halloween themed games right now.

They usually have big preorder vouchers (20-25% off a preorder) and occasionally a 15% voucher that you can apply to anything.

But the AI is a bit weird from time to time. Nothing gamebreaking for me and I still have the "one more turn" syndrome with this game so it's a good sign.

The AI is a lot like Civ V, incredibly stupid. I played one game where there was another Civ near me and they kept want to try to colonize a location that was in my area so they would sent a Settler, I would DOW them and take it and then would would have a passive-aggressive stalemate for a while until the AI would make peace.

A while later they would try to settle the same spot again. It wasn't even a particularly great spot and when I scouted North of their location a little later when I decided to destroy them, I found that they had several better locations to settle. For whatever reason they were utterly hell-bent on settling in that other location and didn't take the hint that I kept asking them not to settle near me.

Is there a way to view all of your cities in a chart, as there was in previous versions? I'd like to see how production, food, etc. line up without having to scroll through all the cities individually...anyone know?

Thanks

Click on the Plus sign next to the menu bar at the lower right side(the one that has your diplomacy, covert ops, etc. There you will find your city overview(I think it's labeled as economic overview. There are few others there as well, like trade route overview.

Computer was probably like: this stupid human, I just want to take this mediocre spot of land and they keep war decoing me! They're not using it and it's not even that good!

No, I kid, the AI was fing awful. I imagine this Civ will be like the last. I'll get it when it's in humble bundles or something. It feels like people completely forgot what the last Civ game was like or something when you read about how they anticipated this one...

Hype and marketing. That is all that this game ever was. They knew that nostalgia has been selling like hotcakes these last few years especially among the older gamer crowd so they thought about restyling Civ 5 into a nostalgia favorite at low cost for massive profits. Take a look at their ads. Very professional and they look like they were made by professional psychologists and marketers. You can see that they focus on one guy peering into the wilderness or unknown. He also does not have any headgear on to make him seem more personal. Also the hex is in both of the ads as maybe a sort of suggestion of exploring the great unknown through the hexes in the game. Thus reinforcing in the minds of the targeted audience that the game is a way to explore the wilderness of the great unknown.

Not everyone. I was bitterly disappointed in Civ V after having pre-ordered it. When I heard about Civ:BE, I was hopeful and went looking for information. As soon as I read that it was built on the Civ V engine and still 1 Unit Per Tile, I knew I wouldn't like it.

Tried the demo a few nights ago. Solid meh.

Anyone break out some Alpha Centauri instead? I got it off of gog when I realized this game definitely wasn't for me, and am really enjoying some Spartan domination right now. The graphics might not have aged well, but the gameplay is still interesting, and reading all of the cool quotes and seeing the wonder movies again really brings me back. One thing that is very striking is the difference in hand holding between AC and more recent games.

I have it from GoG (got it as soon as they got rights to the expansion), and play it every once in a while. I haven't played it just recently though.

I don't mind the 1 unit per tile restriction, but I feel that there's probably a happy medium between that and previous games (especially Civ IV) where you'd get Shaka rolling through with the 100 unit stack of doom. Although that's fun in its own right because you almost crap yourself the first time you see it, it still has some problems in its own right.

I honestly think that BE is better than Civ V with all of the expansions, but it still could use a lot of refinement. The AI being complete idiots is probably the biggest complaint I have at this time.

I've heard multiplayer is kind of a wash because of some problems re-loading games and certain 'ruins' type resources/events allowing players to get too far ahead of each other too quickly.

I hope it improves since multiplayer is basically the big draw to the game for me, probably waiting on it personally.

The easy way to deal with this is to introduce area attacks or ways to deal with the whole army. Siege equipment and spies come to mind right away. Spies could try poisoning the food and water supplies.

Yeah I did, done something ive never done in 15 years... fighting the AI on transcend difficulty. Doing alright so far, abundant native life as the gains gives me quite an edge :)

Absolutely love having a base governor, lack of one in civ V seriously kills it for me I cant stomach having to queue up another fooking monument/granary/whatever combo in a city... its so goddamn tedious with a large empire.

They always make the AI give higher weight to tiles closer to the human player to make it more challenging. They always prefer to explore towards you first and settle towards you.

Though something happened with the Civ AI engine in the past couple of years to seriously degrade it. I remember Civ 5 used to be better but now Civ 5/Civ BE have pretty awful combat AI

Just figured I'd post some links to some Civilization: Beyond Earth gameplay videos from VulcanHDGaming. I subscribe to his channel and he comes out with great videos for Rome 2, Wargame: Airland Battle, and now Civ: Beyond Earth (among a couple others).

Civilization: Beyond Earth #1 (PAC, Harmony)
Civilization: Beyond Earth #2 (PAC, Harmony)
Civilization: Beyond Earth #3 (PAC, Harmony)

I've been watching his Civ: Beyond Earth series to try and glean some tips and strategy for the game. I've only ever played Civ IV (and only a couple hours at that) so I don't really know what the hell I'm doing.

Only 200 turns into my first game, but really enjoying it so far!

How can display the players' scores underneath the minimap?
