I see a civil war coming if we do not close the Mexican border.

This is a divididng issue that will cause a civil war if left unchecked.

I could see some posibilities.

We could Close the border and put troops there to enforce it. We already have troops. When they are not at war they need some training.

Or we could just open the border and let anyone come accross that wants to. If we taxed people at entry at least we could control who was coming in and who was not.

Imagine this:

If a Mexican wants to enter from Mexico he pays a $500.00 fee to enter and we give him a green card, and a social security card or some kind of identification that makes him a legalized Guest Worker. He can then get goods legally. If he needs welfare, we just send him back to Mexico for Vagrancy. We could even encourage empoyers to hire Mexicans to take your High Paying Jobs. After all that would only be fair.

Isn't a civil war something that happens within a country? not country against another?

However, I do see something bad happening, I doubt it will go to the level of a civil war, but the outcome of this illegal immigrant issue is not looking good, gonna be some very pissed off people no matter the decision.
If it's for kicking out the illegals, making them felons, that roughly 15,000,000 people. If it goes the other way and the US citizens are pissed, there could be rioting in the streets. I really don't think it will spill south though.

When you have one group of people with another culture and ethnic origin fighting against there rest of America and their employers take advantage of them, often that group rises up against the established law abiding society. If they feel they are mistreated, they will feel the need to act out just like the Muslims in France. We have examples of this in History.

Seriously, the current political situation in Mexico is a Republican wet dream. There's a relative handful of really rich people who run Mexico and everyone else is poor. And the United States is Mexico's welfare system.

It will probably be both.

This is not a typical wedge-issue like abortion. This is a serious issue that could have a massive impact on everyone in the US. You can't have "Homeland Security" without protecting your borders and ports. And you can't get a fair wage when someone is willing to take your job for less than minimum wage.

Too many seem fixated on the "illegal" part of Illegal Immigrant. Along the same lines as "drugs are bad because they are illegal!" arguement. Like I said in another thread on the same subject, I think 90% of those complaing about "illegal immigrants" would stop complaining if amnesty(making illegals legal) were granted. They simply would no longer have a reason to be riled up about it.

The next time anyone gets worked up about the reported 12 million "illegals" consider the size of that number for a moment. That's a lot of people, doing a lot of Jobs, buying a lot of stuff, renting a lot of Homes. Also consider that there's no way you could deport them even if you wanted to, they are simply too numerous. Consider that the SS problem is due to a Demographic problem and these 12 million fit into the demographic where low numbers are a major factor in that problem. Consider all that and also that all the arguements of "they don't pay Taxes" and "they use up our services for free" would instantly vanish by granting them amnesty. Amnesty is a win-win situation.

Well, I would think of more successful examples of socialism like one might find in Europe, but if you want to confuse totaltarianism with socialism, its a free country.

Those are totalitarian regimes under the guise of communism (and not very good example of communism either they could very well have started from right wing fascism too -the end product is the same), Not socialist you nimrod. Socialism is sweden or norway, you know free democratic societies with higher standards of living then even us where people can vote on a number of parties who are somewhat accountable to the people.

Why the ****** would Islamic terrorists want to try to smuggle a bomb across the Mexican border.

Its easier to do it across the Canadian border, where they wouldnt have to risk crossing paths with human or drug smugglers like on the Mexican border. Also the Canadian border is much less defended on either side.

Easier still would be to boat it into the US.
