Well I wish I was getting one, but that definately ain't happening. I am however trying to get an Acura Integra GSR 94+ (170HP 1.8L VTEC). I would be happy with that :)

Personally, I'm not a big fan of pony cars. I think F-bodies are one of the ugliest cars around.

However,
Honda owners tend to be too-proud of their cars too. (powered by Honda all over the place, hell Honda isn't even winning F1 anymore.) Most honda owners that I know/met overrated their cars.

Honda created the Civic to be an economy car. Nothing more than that. They want good reliable car with good mileage. On the other hand, pony cars are DESIGNED to be FAST on the straights. Now which car do you think'll win?? of course, there are always exceptions to the rule. It is possible to have a turbocharged econobox that can run quicker than a V8. But in the long run, the V8 will win.

Look at some of the best the Ferraris: F355 has a V8. F360 has a V8. F40 has a Turbocharged V8. Why do you think they come with a V8, and not a turbocharged 4?

I can say that 99.9% of the time, when a civic owner comes in bragging about smoking pony cars, he/she knows sh1t about cars. As I've said, there will be exceptions. If you know something about cars, you'll know that a FWD econobox is not the 1st thing you want when it comes to racing. If you drive a civic, I'm not insulting your car or anything. It's just a fact. Honda owners, look at your car's godfather: the NSX (which is a fine sportscar, btw). Is it FWD?

Now an integra, or a prelude is a step better than the civic. It's designed with a little sport car image in mind. Neverthless, Honda created them not as a pure-performance car. So, yes you can turbo charge your integra and kick a V8's butt... but in the long run the integra will lose. (on the straights)

I mean, take BMWs for example. When people refer to them as sport sedans, they're serious. It's a sedan, with sportscar like dynamics. They are FAST on the track. (if you argue that, you need to do more research on sports car racing scene) Still, even the M series BMWs are NOT designed with drag racing in mind (yes, the new M5 too). And although BMWs will be faster than pony cars on the track, in the long run, they will lose to pony cars on the straight.(let's exclude the new M5 out of this one. :) )

On the other hand, some pony car owners can be very close minded. Although most 4 cylinders today are meant for econoboxes, that doesn't mean that 4 cylinders are slow. If you still doubt this, you need to do more reading.

Now you're asking: I want performance, but I don't like pony cars. Get an older performance-oriented cars. (RX7 comes to mind.) But make sure you have one thing straight: Performance WILL cost you reliability. That's the general rule. If you have a performance car that's reliable, it's either the car is not at its maximum capacity, or you've been lucky.
You want performance, you'll need to get to know your car more. Because when you buy those older sport cars, they WILL need maintenance, and if you're not familiar with the mechanics of your car, you'll burn a lot of money on maintenance.

That's long enough I think.

<< Ok you win, the Camaro is the fastest car for the buck (I don't care anyway). But you still drive the ugliest sports car I have ever seen >>

thank you. that made my respect for you jump tenfold.

however, I think the civic is the ugliest car I've ever seen, so we're even. :p

seriously, I hate how civics, mustanges, etc. are all upright, the seats are straight up like truck seats, the windshield flat and short, and the front end short and compact. I love the fbody with the low stealthy look, long front end, sloped windshield, etc. I am extremely uncomfortable driving a mustang or compact econobox...

this same low sloped look is something that I love about the next car that I will be buying in 8-12 months, the C5 Corvette

As far as looks go with the F Bodies, Camaros are cool in my book. But the Firebird?? GADDAMN!! The ram air hood looks like it's gonna explode, and I've always wondered how people see over that damn hood! Val, I've seen yours and that design is cool by me, but the new ones need to have the front end revamped - badly. Even the headlights look crappy :disgust:

And Val also opened my eyes to how cheap a Camaro really is (pricewise) in a certain thread some time ago. Some kid at work was telling me about this wonderful 230HP Saab he wanted to get (for 40K!!!), I told him I could buy 2 Camaros for that price, one to smoke him with, and one to look pretty :)

MMmm, he has a point there. The Supra puts out almost just as much HP, but in a sexier and more refined package....too bad they don't make them anymore :( And it's even worse that the Camaro's suffering the same fate :(

Sportscar design and F-body design are two different things. Heh heh, whenever I see a camaro (esp. black color camaro), it always reminds me of cockroaches. :D

A lot of people would find the last sentence offensive, but I can't help it. ;)

Valhalla1: Well I guess we are even. We see cars in different views. You want a more laid back speed demon. I prefer a rice mobile (if thats what you wanna call it), only thing is I won't put Type R stickers, and stupid sh!t on my car to make it seem faster. I would only add things I thought made it look better.

Also, I don't like the fact that people call everything "rice" if it doesn't have to do with performance. People want there cars to look good, as well as make it fast at the same time. So who's to say a car with a huge spoiler, stickers, altezza's, ground effects, etc. doesn't have a turbocharged NOS'd engine, that won't kick your ass? I personally love to make my car look good with things that look hot like altezza's, spoilers, ground effects, superwhite lights, etc. But I do agree there are certain aftermarket parts that can make your car look ugly. For instance Shogun groundeffects kits and GTR Spoilers are the ugliest things I have ever seen and do make your car look like sh!t. Even though I like altezza's, some of them look like sh!t on certain cars. It all depends on what car you have, and what you add to it. Some things look good on one car, but not on the next. You have to learn to style the car the way it was ment to be, and not add something just because it looks hot on another car you saw.

Supra's are okay. Fast, sure. but I don't like the big wing, its too "almost rice".

Anyway, the looks of the car is a completely different thing than the performance. The performance and low cost/performance of the fbody is proven and stands strong at the top. The looks are a personal preference. Here in Texas, more fbodies are sold than anywhere else in the US, so they are very accepted around here.

Also, I agree that the 98 and newer Camaro's aren't the best looking Camaros in history. The 93-97 front ends were better looking, more sleek and mean. That is the reason I chose the Pontiac fbody over the chevy, for the looks (and the interior quality is higher in the firebirds). The Trans Am has always had a distinctive look. Its the whole "Pontiac Excitement" thing, its in-your-face, I-don't-give-a-fuc* what you think, I'm here to whoop some ASS styling, whereas the Camaro is slightly more conservative muscle.

I happen to love the 98 and newer firebird's/Trans Am's look. But again, its a personal preference thing. Recently in GM High Tech Performance magazine, there was some interviews of some mustang buyers, on why they chose the mustang over the fbody. Many stated that they didn't like the low slung style of the car, the long front end and sloped hood/windshield. I however think that is one of the best features of the car looks and comfort wise. To me, the Mustang seems more like a glorified family compact car with a V8 and a spoiler. Its too "upright" and compact feeling. I like the big long muscular feel. However with the (temporary - they will return in 2005 or 2006!) demise of the f-car, I have set my eyes on the Corvette, America's sports car, as my next venture. Probably not a good thing for a poor 19 year old college kid to fall in love with considering the price tag, but I couldn't help myself. ;)

so now I'm trying to pay off my car as quick as I can so I can sell it and put a down payment on a C5 coupe. Time for me to step up to the big boys, fighting off vipers and porche's, no time for these kiddie fights of mustangs and civics. ;) :p Just couting on my promotion in March to seal the deal for me, so I can be just the 2nd kid to drive a Corvette to school, and only one to have a C5 (some kid has a rusty C4 coupe that hasn't been well kept :| ) at my university

Skoorb, I had a 2001 SS until it was totaled in Dec. Rock quarry truck's brakes went out coming down the hill in front of my office and went thru the redlight missing his left turn and smashed squarely into my car parked on the side of the street. No, we don't have indoor parking around here :(

Oh christ - didn't insurance give you enough to get a new one or did you just prefer to get a used one and save the extra $5-10k left over? Damn at least you weren't just getting out of the car!

I live in texas. All my cousins are car salesman. Sterling McCall Toyota is the Highest seller in the whole state. (located in houston) Why isnt a state like Texas of all states dominated by American Car Sales??

Cause Competition has offered many solutions, and the average consumer recognizes this. American is the convienant way anymore.

The TransAm is my realistic dreamcar. The camaro is so ugly its my nightmare.:)

edit: and man if the wing is too rice for you on a supra, take it off. dont knock the car cause its got a big wing. and what do you call trucks with all that body crap?? spoilers here, there, even on the windows?!?!?! instead of rice, what now? beans??

And Dynamix, for the price of an NSX, I could get a Viper ;) MMMmmmm....Viper..

BBD I don't think you'd be too hot going at 150 in a convertible viper :) I've heard they are not the best for comfort either, but then in the case of a viper unlike a car like a corvette I don't think many people are using them to commute anyway. If I'm not mistaken the first vipers didn't even have locks on the doors...

people buy civics cuz they are cheap and they have no personality. "Bobby has a Civc, i want one too!!" is the mental status.

ALl of us american car buyers, this is what makes those ricers go right here.

and here are some good quotes from speedmagazine.com

<< I just read the story and i have to agree with you Si ain't nothing but a hopped up econo car. One can't compare a jetta 1.8t to a pile of civic. I just bought a 2001 jetta 1.8t and traded in my 99 Mustang gt becouse of a fender bender and becouse the amount of driving that i do the car was not practical, when it came to racing i put 4lenghts on it with 2 pas as for the vw I can stileat Si. >>

<< hahahhahahahahahahahaha styling? performance? honda? those three things dont go together hahahahahahahah what a moron hahahahahahaha LOL this is hilarious ps wanna run your 105trq monster against my car? ill give you 5 sec head start and still kick your _ass hahahahaha this is some funny _*BEEP* >>

<< Welcome to the family (never thought I'd hear myself say that to a Mustang owner....;) Great run....don't be surprised by the Honda owner's reaction. Most of them are really going to hate you now that you have a VW. We didn't start this fight, they did... >>

<< if honda engines were top notch then in their own country they should be... but that's not the case... who is the topdog their? NISSAN and TOYOTA... even mitsu and subaru kicks ass there... >>

food for thought.

The mental status you refer to is the ONLY reason people by the lower end domestics like cavaliers and neons (I'm not talking a Neon R/T, I'm talking the bottom end ones). You may hate civics and thats fine but you must admit that people who buy the entry level neons and cavaliers would do better with a japanesse car. The foreign beats the domestic in every area. THey are similarly priced and, unlike the cavalier/neon, the civics and corollas and sentras will actually still be worth something in a few years. Domestic cars generally have very bad warranties and their resale price drops through the floor. If you want power buy a muscle car if you like, but if you want a cheap commuter you gotta go for an import!

My neighbor's '95 Cavalier (few km) already has a wicked rust spot developing over the rear wheel! Imports warranty against rust for a decade or longer.

Exactly. Working on the mods list every weekend. Without a doubt, I am going to buy another ride for daily commuting towards the end of the year. The GF seems to have taken possesion on my explorer :) No, I am not saying the Z28 will be unstreetable, I just don't want to have to rush to put the engine/trans/rear end back in the car to go to work Monday. So, I am kinda staying mild with the mods for now.
