Anyone read any articles covering what is expected from this next add on?

Maybe add even more features that were already available in SMAC to Civilization 4?

(my complaint aside, hopefully they will offer the two expansion packs as a bundle so that I can get a discount for buying both, have yet to buy the first expansion pack)

Too many interesting titles coming out this fall. :( I won't have time to play more than 1 or 2 of them. :

From the link in this thread they say everything from Warlords is included in the next one except the scenarios. (Which is a reason to still get the warlord pack at some time as several of them are very fun.)

Here's the Civ Fanatic's BTS info thread.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=222075

Very good link. Looks like they are helping the 2 areas of the game I find most lacking (later years where getting hi tech military is nice but doesn't matter cause the game is about to end and the space race).

Also some other interesting things like sea based barbarians is nice :)

All epic game content from Warlords will be included in BTS. Scenario content will not be included.

I assume "epic" content refers to all of the warlord features (like vassal states)?

I might have to pick this up, probably going to get it via steam because of the use of SecuROM in the expansion pack (I do not own Warlords).

So, the warlords content worth the extra $30 or should I just get Beyond The Sword (this is going to be mainly for my notebook to play offline when I lack internet access).

The Warlords scenarios are not worth $30 ($5-10, maybe). Get BTS and don't look back - if you don't already have Warlords, it's a no-brainer...if you do (like me), I'd wait for a sale.

Just bought it off of steam, A5, thanks! (sad 2K games switched to Sony's SecuROM, otherwise I would have bought it retail)

Got BTS off Steam myself yesterday. :)

I'm trying to wrap up a game that I had started under the Warlords expansion earlier before I delve into the BTS content. Dang archpelago, tiny fricking island maps. :| Its nearly impossible to get cities with decent production, to say nothing of expanding my empire . . .err democratic republic.

I heard they didn't take the proper time to balance all the units in BTS. Another rushed expansion, used to generate $$$$. I'll be sticking to my regular copy until Civ5 releases, or the DS game comes out.

Given the number of people that play the game prelease compared to post-release; that's about a usefull comment.

I like it. My buddy and I just played a game. You've got to be careful for that new, Classical-era UN (I forget what it's called). Somehow Saladin created it and had like 90% of the votes and thus won. I have no idea what happened, how it happened, or why it happened. Saladin and I were about tied in empire size and power, so it caught us by surprise.

By the way, The Great Wall is fantastic. :p

That's the Apostolic Palace. There are ways to exploit it at the current point in time (Spread religion through all your cities under theocracy so 100% is your religion, then pop it in one city of each empire. They're all represented, hence victory can be voted upon, and you control 99% of the vote). It is recognized as an issue and will be fixed in the next patch (hopefully). In the meantime, make sure you spread religions to keep that from happening. Other than the Apostolic Palace, I'm very much enjoying the xpac. I've played two shorter games, currently playing an epic Emperor-Huge-Archipelago as the Dutch and having a blast. Even the Apostolic Palace is fun here (Defense Pacts with all the fellow Hindu civs by force, meaning I'm able to stay rather military light)

You can get better content than the Warlords scenarios just by downloading mods off the internet. You can definitely skip it. BTS has all of the game content (vassal states, great generals, new wonders, etc.) which is the important stuff.

I didn't realize I could get it through steam. I ordered from Amazon and it still isn't here yet.

The future epic mod is great. I am currently crushing my enemies with war mechs and dreadnoughts. That's what they get for asking me for tributes and waging war on my nation.

There are lot of little tweaks that I like in BTS. The random events also make things interesting. I was going to crush my Arabian neighbors who shared my continent with me, but one of my cities had a total famine and the Arabian's stepped in and sent me all their food stores. I even had a large army trained and was prepping defenses on my border cities for an invasion. Had to reroute to take down an infidel civilization across the map.

Just picked it up with a price match at Best Buy. Also had two $5 reward certificates, so 4.99 plus tax not bad for an expansion.

Is anybody else having a problem with Civ4 and Vista? I had it playing under Vista when it was beta, but it doesn't seem to be working now! I did the latest update (the one that came with BTS), but it's crashing immediately.
