Have had it on pre-purchase for a while now, follow the reddit like crack. Very excited for this, although there's already some areas CO needs to work on (I'm looking at you Mr. Ramps and you Mrs. Tunnels).

they've confirmed tunnels are one of the first things they will work on after release.

paradox?? uh .. they' not good.
but, a version of sim city that doesnt suck .. do want ...

What's wrong with Paradox? The only complaint that I've really ever heard is that they tend to like their DLC a bit too much. They are just the publisher though. Apparently, the developer that made this game also made Cities in Motion, so they do have some cred when it comes to city simulation.

As for other Paradox games, they also publish Arrowhead's Magicka series, which I enjoy quite a bit. Yeah, it also has a crap-ton of DLC, but you just pick up the cosmetic stuff on the cheap during Steam sales anyway. 😛

Oddly enough, there's a part of me that wants to support this game simply because it's not a popular genre of games, and this looks like a good entry.

What's wrong with Paradox?

Magicka
Europa Universalis
Mount and Blade
Crusader Kings

They've either developed or published quite a few games. yes, they do a lot of DLC, but wait a bit and you can get a lot of it cheap.

Who would you prefer? EA? We know how that went. Activision/Blizzard? We wouldn't get the game for another 8 years, there'd be panda's all over the place, and you'd have to buy the game 3 times to get the whole thing.

mount n blade wasnt paradox originally. europa universalis sucked balls originally, has so many bugs that it wasnt possible to win it and even the devs were at a loss to understand what certain functions did. OF THEIR OWN GAME.
they like to release games that dont work. and fix them very slowly. and are bad at optimizing.
aside from that .. all good.

It's pleasing to see that this game is actually living up to (most of) the hype, and receiving positive reviews across the board.

Congrats to the devs. I hope they get a nice return on their efforts here.

Now I can't wait to get home and it's only 10AM!

I am sure the community is going to pick up modding for this big time as well, and this will evolve nicely over the next year with the community adding content, and the devs taking care of bugs and performance and further developing their own addons.

Also, I'd love to see them bring back "expansion packs" as well instead of DLC. 😛

The amount of stuff you can build in this game is massive. Here's some screenshots of a 235,000 population city from a guy who's played a preview copy for ~100 hours. Awesome.

Getting rave reviews everywhere. Having a hard time finding a negative review. Even on Metacritic, everything is quite positive so far. Can't wait until I get home to play.

Damn it, wish there was a preload for people with shit internet. Tried to dl it at work where I was getting 30mbps on my phone, but it wasn't available. Get home and I'm dling it at 3mbps. At least it isn't very big.

So who is playing?

Ah that's easy. All you have to do is take the roundabout into the next roundabout that goes into the... roundabout that... goes into a spiral and...

(can't wait to build my own!)

I am so freaking excited for this game. Mostly because it seemingly snuck up out of nowhere. I watched livestreams all weekend. Can't wait till tomorrow!

Yeah...this reminds me, know what would be cool? A stickied Official Anandtech PC Gaming Top 10 Per Genre Games in Development list.

City Builders, MMORPG, Other MMOs, Adventure, RTS, etc etc.

Funny you say that when Paradox is my favorite developer/publisher. CK2 and EU4 were highly polished on release, I played both on release date without issues for many many hours. Their DLCs are usually great (though not as polished as their initial releases). I also like that with each DLC comes a free patch that upgrades the game even if you don't buy the DLC... playing CK2 or EU4 without any DLCs today is a much more expanded experience than when they were new (and when they were new they were already complete and awesome games).

But to each their own, I guess you prefer EA or Origin.

Played about 5.5 hrs. Was pretty fun. Nothing really stood out but it is a solid city builder. My city started to have traffic issues once it got big. I didn't count on the industrial area being heavy in traffic but I switched it to an oil industry and there were tons of tractors on the roads. When the traffic got bad my oil power plant dropped its output since it couldn't get oil fast enough. Next time I'm going to have to build up the infrastructure a bit more in those areas. City is at 30K pop.

I'm going really slow so my pop is only 1500. I haven't even sped up the game as I enjoy watching the city grow naturally 🙂 No issues yet (but then, what town of 1500 has issues other than old ladies' gossip)

This game has the old SimCity feel to it. The game runs great too. This is my city and progress, and I have filled up one tile so far.

I also think I have a traffic problem. 😛

The only bug so far seems to be population. My city has 21,000 population which seems very small. They should multiply whatever is going by a factor of 10. Nobody would notice and it would seem more realistic. But regardless, I'm having a ton of fun with this.
