Did a search for IOmagic and can't believe this has not been posted.

OP - Digital330@chubby wallet

CC has I/O Magic 8x dual format DVD burner for $139.99 - $60 rebates - $44 (110% PM to Staples weekly flyer) = $36 + tax.

Just picked up my drive at 9:00pm today and so far no problems with the price match.

Steps to make it easy for you.
1. goto Circuit city and seach for IOMAGIC 8x Dual format DVD burner "IMM IDVDRW8D"
2. order online and choose pickup at store, online is already OOS, if your lucky they may have some
3. drag your lazy butt to staples and pick up thier weekly flier, you have a way better chance of getting the PM with the flier. worst comes to worst, you can do a dumpster diving for the sunday circular. otherwise you can try this just choose "select another location" then enter you ZIP code and search for it.
4. goto to the CC and pick up the item. inocently ask who ever is working with you if they price match and pull out the staples flier that you picked up earlier.
5. if everything goes as planned, walah!! you got: $139.99 - $60 rebates - $44 (110% PM to Staples flyer) = $36 + tax

If you get snagged by a SOB CSrep, don't worry, you can send in your email confirmation as a reciept for the rebate and print out the rebate forms from CC website.

Manufacturer rebate form

Circuit City rebate :)

Good luck!! Happy Hunting!! :)

EDIT: I/O Magic doesn't manufacture thier own drives but OEM other drives. I got is a BTC DVDRW1008IM. You can see this on the Model number sticker on the drive itself. I'm not familiar with the outside S/N stuff.

How's your DVD +R burning speed? I think I've read somewhere that it has slow +R burning and fast -R burning. Will the new firmware fix that?

Thanks

Just did this deal, without any poblem. Went to staples and got the flier, went to CC and picked up the drive, the price tag said nothing about rebates - took it to the cashier and asked for a price mathch to staples at $99.94 so it came out to be 95.93 + tax. The cashier did not mention the rebates and was sending me on my way, but I waited and took my time until the rebates both printed out and she gave them to me.....

Great deal, Good luck and thanks

The Drive is rated as: 8X DVD+R, 4X DVD-R, 2X DVD-RW, 40X CDR, 24X CD-RW, 40X CD-ROM, 12X DVD-ROM.

Of the $60 in rebates one is a $30 from Circuit City. Won't circuit city just equate thate rebate with the instant rebate from staples. When I show the low staples price, CC will say they match the staples $30 with a mail in rebate. Wouldn't the price match only give back $11 ?
Do these guys really fall for this stuff? I see this as $69 at CC. Pretty good but not $36.
Am I wrong somehow?

Like I said, there is no mention of the rebates on the price tag on the shelf so they should go ahead and price match and only after they do price match and the rebates print out do they realize there are rebates associated with this deal and this is when YMMV comes into play.... if they do give you a hassle just return it and walk away.

my past experiences with CC on PM has been that they won't PM if there's already a rebate involved. But if the tag at the store doesn't show any rebate, then it may be viable.

it is marked as $130 BUT has a "Special Buy" on it. Get a flyer instead and it will show up as $99.98.

that's the same drive i bought today, and from what i've read it is a mediocre drive. i just used the dvd+rw provided to burn a data disc and it seems to work fine. i must say that it's nearly silent when in use, reading and writing.

for $40AR, there's no way i can complain :)

I was able to PM OD today. $40 AR is not bad for this drive. I had the 2.4x version and it worked like a charm.

how does your DVD drive open and close? I just got that IO magic one too, and it accerlates open, then slows down... when it closes, it accelerates closed and then slows down as the door almost gets all the way in.

Is this normal?

Hey LoverBoyJ

Thanks for the link. I have gone through the price match policy of CC. However they said that -

"Our policy applies only to advertised prices. It does not apply to special offers or promotions, including rebates, free-with-purchase offers and special financing. "

So does this deal with PM is applicable to the their policy? Finally, should I show the staples flyer at the checkout or purchase it and return to 'returns section' after 15 minutes, as suggested by my friend.

I want to make sure of these because I really had bad experience with local cc and staples before.

Thanks for your time

Regards
Ram

I was just at the CC in Chicago and picked one up. No questioned asked. The best part about it is my receipt just shows the price as $95.93 and doesn't say anything about a PM. Nice find!

EDIT: With I/OMagic, you have two possibilities for what drive you will get. The first is the BTC DVDRW1008IM (see above for review). The other possibility is the OptoRite DD0401, which is what I got.

Link to OptoRite review.

its a standard policy, almost every store states that same kind of policy.
Thats why its important to bring the staples flyer because the advertised price is stated which complies to their policy " applies only to advertised prices ". Some people reported problems when they only bring a web printout. good luck!

edit: Staples flyer doesn't mention of any rebates. Thats why its all good!! :) :)

Bad luck again.. :|
Went to nearby CC store, the sales rep is a ....
Well I went to him asked for a price match at the cash counter, before purchasing. He had a look at the staples flyer, gone through it for 5 mins, then rangup the nearby staples found that they have it in stock.

I thought I would get PM for sure, however, he couldn't add the PM himself so he called the manager, who, did said PM is not applicable on SPECIAL BUY (as staple flyer states) products, and more over he said that AFTER REBATES (found the rebates info at the checkout screen in monitor) OUR PRODUCT COMES AT LESS PRICE THAN STAPLES, SO SORRY. :brokenheart: This would have been the first price match of mine if I were successfull. May be luck is not with me any time.

So returned disappointed. But I was wondering, none of your guys have posed any questions? Finally, I am not sure of how to deal with price matches. Do you guys have any suggestion, like purchase it cash counter, don't talk about PM there. Then return to the return section ask for PM over there etc.

Finally, should

Finally, should

buy it online for in store pickup, if you still can, then pick it up and then ask them to pricematch the staples advertisement. if they don't, just return the drive and get a refund.
