How's the reception on Cingular's GSM network? I have ATT tdma is a hell of a lot better than ATT GSM ... but the only drawback is that I have a really sucky phone cause it's tdma =(

Used to be an ATT employee, and finally, as of last month, am no longer a customer.
My wife had Cingular while I had ATT. They both sucked. I had a decent plan with them, and I was on their corporate sponsorship program. So free phones w/o contract and decent pricing is all that kept me there.
But reception on both was @ss. The Cingular was the worst as far as plans went. We called several times throughout our 2-yr tenure with them, and there was never anything marginally better than we were on.
Thankfully, we have since switched to T-Mobile family plans on MUCH better phones are getting MUCH better reception.
I have some friends that still work at ATT, their reactions are
when it comes to $$, as their employee stock purchases just more than doubled. But as far as everything else goes, they don't know what's gonna happen. A few have already dodged lay-offs by switching departments, a few weren't so lucky.
Only time will tell.

i knew it. and i was gonna jump ship to att wireless when my contract ended in a few months. oh well. reception with Cingular is spotty in my house. ATT Wireless reception is spotty here too. Guess ill go with Verizon.
Suncom is a member of the AT&T wireless network.
What does this buyout mean since I am a SunCom customer? I really love the UnPlan I hope it stays

Interesting... my contract with ATT expires in less than a month and I am ready to switch. This probably won't affect reception in the Portland market that much, though, since Cingular had no presence here to begin with. ATT's TDMA system is on the decline here and their GSM system is still developing.
It will still be interesting to see what kind of phones/plans the combined company will offer.

nope, the standard plan doesn't include unlimited nights and weekends, nor the 50 free texts msgs. The unlimited nights and weekends is what sealed the deal. Couldn't find that for $30 anywhere else.
lol, welcome to 2002, yes that IS the standard plan and frankly a little worse then the standard. only 200 anytime minuites? Most places I see have 300 now.

The largest mobile communications company in the world. They own a 45% stake in Verizon Wireless also. I've heard that China Mobile now has more subscribers, but I'm not sure if that's true
You can't get stuck with the new combined company if they switch plans. Any time they change the terms of your service agreement (a.k.a. make you switch plans or change your plan in any way), you are free to call up and terminate without paying the $175 termination fee. Just a heads up in case you don't like what happens after this.

Link doesn't work, but the plan still isn't anything "great." Verizon gets you 300 minutes for $35, plus all the other stuff minus text messaging. It's not bad, it's just not something that's too good to pass up.

sorry to say, but these people are right...the plan listed is standard at best. i signed up with att wireless last summer, and got the nationwide plan with 300 anytime, unlimited nights and weekends, unlimited text messaging....and i got a free gsm phone - all for 29.99 a month, 1 year contract....and taht was a standard plan at the time
I thought T-mobile was just using Cingular's networks over here in the United States. In exchange, T-mobile lets Cingular use their networks over in Europe.
