Just got the bad news from HR today, 2010 Cigna HMO will go from $63/wk to $111/wk for 2 people. This is from a large multi-national, multi-billion dollar company too. I know Ins. goes up every year but $48/wk increase for 2 people?. I need the best coverage for my wife who has several conditions and they won't let me take the cheaper (PPO) coverage for myself, both must have the same...

Blame your employer for cutting costs by changing group plans.

-edit-
Why not take the cheaper premium plan for both of you and setup a healthcare spending account for tax purposes? Might be cheaper for you two.

My premiums go up 20% next year. Thank you private insurance industry. Keep fighting the evil single payer system.

Exact same plans, we had Cigna before the priced just jumped dramatically. No annual raise this year either, just "be glad you have a job and STFU"..

See my edit. So basically your employer reduced what they paid for the same plan and shifted some of the burden to you. Basically you got a pay cut.

We have HSA accounts available for all the options, including the HMO based one, I will be enrolling in that to save some $$ as HMO's have substantial co-pay's these days..

In my case, you are completely wrong. The total premium will go up 24.5%. My company passed along a 20% increase, absorbing a portion of the increase. Hooray for the private health insurance industry! Long live profits!

Edit: This is a high deductible plan with HSA.

The ridiculous part is, a lot will be priced out of health care by not being to afford the premiums even working for a large company. More folks at the emergency room without ins. If they opted for it might have left them short on $$ for rent and food and utility's..

Be glad you live in the United States where insurance companies have the freedom to charge you whatever they want. Why do you hate freedom?

Yea, you have no basis for saying that. A lot of employers are being hit hard with increases this year. We're lucky because we locked in a 7% increase on our medical and vision for the next 2 years, but a lot are being hit with upwards of 20% or more.

It's double action. Insurance funds themselves off the stock market. Market tanked so they have to bring in more capital to recover. And employers are looking to cut expense anywhere they can and most are doing so by reducing benefits.

Congratulations you have helped pay a good portion of the wages of one of their many cock-fvck-master lobbyists who are in Washington pimping out their employer like a bukkake whore and enslaving the piss-poor facsimiles of democratic politicians we refer to as Senators for the almighty buck.

Enjoy the scat party you'll have after the two years when they really bend you over the barrel.

FWIW my premium hasn't moved meaningfully in a few years. Maybe just good luck, I don't know. My employer is huge so maybe that helps to a degree.

Heh.

Pretty soon, EVERYONE but the most wealthy will be self insured via HSA. At the end of 2007, 69% of companies offered health insurance. Today, just 62% offer health insurance and the plans offered cover less and cost more. Yep, great choices there.

Sits back and waits for someone to tell me that I can get better and AFFORDABLE insurance by buying it myself instead of employer plan.

It's ridiculous all the shit the gov't forces insurance companies to do, then when prices go up act like the companies are the evil ones. I know a lady who has done artificial insemination THREE TIMES (her ins co is forced to cover this by law). Do you have any idea how expensive it is to do it just once? Outrageous. There are lots of other procedures most people would never have done that they cover and, surprise, we all pay for it.

But you're right, when taxpayers pay for everything I'm sure it will work great. Like the VA hospital system.

Stories like this make me glad my employer pays my premiums.

That said, health insurance in this country is so incredibly fucked, it's amazing things haven't changed. But actually, it's not that amazing when you realize all the politicians are on industry payrolls.

Welcome to the new feudal America, fellow serfs.

You can get more affordable insurance premiums and one that may meet your needs better if you get it yourself. Notice the difference.

Uh, what state forces this?

I'm getting a 13% increase, same as last year.

Increase in pay or ins. costs??.

Increase in insurance costs, I took a 10% cut in pay this year along with everyone else in my division.

They should not be paying for it unless she has a plan specifically mentioning that it will cover that, which I assume it does. So in that sense she was already paying extra in case she needed that.

And the insurance companies are evil. Did you see the ex head of Cigna--the whistleblower--his interview recently? It helped put things in perspective for me.

Just got my notification about next years insurance:

Premiums going up 10%
Health credit going up $10/week

So my rates will stay right about the same with the company paying $5600 for my insurance and me paying roughly $1500
