Cicadas are annoying

There must be a billion outside my house for the past few days. All I hear is this constant drone when I go near the front of my house. Took me a while to figure out what it was. I'm not alone, apparently.

We get cicada's every year (iirc). We also have the larger broods with the 17 year cycles.

Looks like we are going to get them in our region but they are not here yet. The weather has been too cold.

I just got back from Allegheny National Forest, on a one week camping trip, and they were driving us nuts at times.

Sitting back in my chair by the fire, all of a sudden feel this little wind by my ear and a huge 'BUZZ' sound... gah that is startling.

Same here in northern NJ, but it may be that the unusually cool weather has just kept them from emerging so far. I believe the soil temp needs to be 64 degrees F.

None here in CT either. Definitely been kind of cold, that's expected to change this week though, looks like a warming trend coming which should tip us over the cicada-point.

I don't recall the last 17 year brood being a problem in my area. As I spend most of my summers outside a vast majority of the time if the cicadas were bad I would have noticed them.

They were talking about these on the news, definitely sounds interesting. Would be kinda neat to see that phenomenon happen.

In other news, we're still seeing Canada Geese flying here. I guess the weather has been so crappy they stayed south longer.

it's not a continous drone as you can hear, they coordinate or something.
Also they come out the same every summer, not just every 17 years or whatever.

Most summers that's what I hear. Though in this area there aren't as many as in the South.

I was in Arkasas the first time I heard them. Cross between a rattle snake and a downed electrical line. Totally freaked me out the first time I heard them.

We're in a heavily wooded area so you hear them really loud. Funny thing is I've only actually seen a handful so far, but by the sound you know there's billions in the trees.

I enjoy the 17 year cicadas. They are gone now and my yard is strangely silent compared to just 2 weeks ago.
