Chrysler sales down 55%, Subaru up 8%, Hyundai up 14%

A month ago (?) Subaru was the only brand I think with a sales gain year over year, but a negligibly small one. Now it's up a good bit and Hyundai (pronounced like Sunday, thanks to the recent commercial helping us out) is up huge, that is just fugging huge in this economy.

Chrysler is getting worse all the time. They are now offering buyouts of up to $50k per employee, which helps us, as if we need any more examples, see how unions have contributed to the demise of Chrysler (obviously not the only reason). Other companies, like Toyota or Honda, can just kill off employees, Chrysler an already weak company has to buy them off, making it weaker.

GM, Ford, Toyota, Honda, etc all posted major losses, except for Hyundai, Kia, and Subaru (due to the new forester which made up for the rest of the divisions downfall)...

However, from sources, there are some SIGNIFICANT differences in CPO vehicles being sold, and those who have worked CPO the best, are currently dominating.

also, Nissan sold more vehicles than Chrysler last month.

That car is beginning to look good to me too. The other new car dealers still don't seem to get it IMHO.

People would be stupid to buy a chrysler now. I was stupid and bought one in 2003. Their warranty was worth about as much as a roll of used toilet paper and now with the potentional of having no company behind that worthless warranty... I bet their sales drop another 50% by next year.

Well to bring honesty Subaru/hyundai sales are pretty small so any swing in volume translates into higher percentages. Not to mention their sales/marketing onslaught. Then there's the whole thing that they produce cars people want at a lower price than their competitors.

Subarus are everywhere in Maine. Looking into one this year myself. I wouldn't buy a Chrysler ever, bleak corporate outlook or no. Seen too many bring pain and anguish to friends and family that have owned them.

I'm for saving the US car companies but not Chrylser. Let it die, it can't be saved we are wasting our futures money. Taking a weak competitor like them off the market will help both GM and Ford (currently the most deserving of a bailout even though they havn't taken one yet). Of course it will help foreign companies to but many of them have production in the US.

Well, I'd like to see what Fiat can do if that deal goes through. Currently, Chrysler is just a terrible company. Their products just aren't good. They don't look very good (yeah, it's subjective, but whatever), the quality is rubbish (both materials and reliability) and they don't even have a very diverse line.

Well, it makes total sense. Hyundai makes decent-to-nice cars at great prices with great warranties and now they're assuaging one of the people's biggest fears (job loss).

A lot of people wouldn't. Only this year did I seriously think about a Kia or Hyundai as a car. I looked recently at the Kia Sedona/Hyundai Entourage. Their safety rating is great. Quality, er, pretty much terrible. I guess the brand has a ways to come on reliability and despite a warranty I don't want the thing in the shop a lot. Consumer Reports gave fairly damning scores to pretty much the entire line of both company's vehicles.

When/if they can pull it up, they will be serious contenders for more people. As we've seen with domestic brands like Ford, people are not soon to forget transgressions and even if quality markedly increases, perceptions are slow to change.

Sales declined, but so did output. All three shut down factories for what, 2 to 3 weeks in January instead of the normal 1? This doesn't really affect sales because obviously nobody is scrambling for these cars. But it should mean less inventory and less capital invested in January, so they should not be losing as much money.

Subaru is one of the few companies that offers AWD vehicles at low prices. Gotta be the reason like half the people buy those cars, its a great feature for free essentially.

It's nice if you're looking for AWD but if you're not it does add a price premium for a feature that you cannot take away.

Thats strange, we have 2 Kia Sedonas, 2006...run fine..not a problem...solid vehicles with lots of bells and whistles..could be a little quieter on the inside...but...nothing is perfect... I always wonder about the studies of cars reliability...i think the stats really take a hit due to the fact how people treat their cars..i mean seriously..have you seen how most people drive, and treat their cars? dont do maintenance until its too late, let there kids spill drinks all over, never clean them, never change air filter, overload them..etc...you CAN tell when someone has taken care of their car however...but most do not...look at craigslist..i cannot understand why most of those tards selling their vehicle DO NOT EVEN CLEAN IT...got shit all in it, windows are dirty, outside has crap all over it...but its a great car...you can tell they could give a shit less on how they treat their car...

in short there needs to be a reliability study on reliability studies....LOL
