Virtual Console :(

Anyway, if they weren't planning on doing a complete overhaul, I would have rather seen this on the PSP a la FFI/II. I think the DS is better for remakes like FFIII and IV since they have to rework it to utilize both screens.

CT was one of my favorite games of all time. I played it not too long ago and it still holds up as a solid RPG. Kinda regret selling my DS lite, but I may end up buying it all over again just for this.

Not as versatile as the [PORTABLE] Nintendo DS and not nearly a userbase as large.

I love how the effective price on these old Square games keeps going up. Glad I bought all the anthologies they offered on PS1 @ $19.99/set.

Fuck I know...I hate it because I have to play most square games.

I mean it seems like every FF DS game so far has been $39.99 MSRP...$39.99! for a DS game!

One thing I hate about this game is that it made me unable to play any other RPG. Oh thank you sweet Jesus for no random encounters.

I have a DS and PSP
too bad -- I wish it were on PSP. I doubt the touch screen/dual screen will make the game
any better.

Probably not - I don't think they used any touch screen controls for FF3. I don't think they made much use of the top screen either, in fact they shut it off at times so they could do better graphics on the lower screen. It's all about the numbers, and there are twice as many DSes as PSPs. According to vchartz, PSP only has one game that sold nearly 5 million copies and a handful that sold between 2 and 3 million. DS has 6 over 10 million, 9 over 5 million, and 25 over 2 million. :Q

You should check out Blue Dragon on the 360. It was made by Mistwalker studios which is basically the Dream Team that made Chrono Trigger. No random encounters and a pretty fun game. A bit of micromanagement at times and there is also valid reason to examine everything in the game, which gets tedious. But a great game.

As much as I loved Chrono Trigger, I won't be getting this. One because I don't own a DS and it's not enough reason for me to buy one. Two because I already own CT as part of Chronicles. Three because I beat CT like 9 times on SNES and at least twice on Playstation, and I've gotten every variation of every ending.

Though since I don't own a SNES anymore, it would be nice to have CT without load times.

FF4, DQ4, and DQ9 are reasons enough to own a DS.

Kingdom Hearts? FF XII?

After the FF7 random encounter fest and how much I hated FF8 I stopped playing FF XII. I never looked at Kingdom Hearts because I wasn't really gaming at the time.

You can use all the menus with the touchscreen, guide your character around the map with the touch screen, etc. It's a bit uncomfortable, though.

I don't mind random encounters too much. Just hold L+R and you run away anyway. FFVI is still the best FF game and it has random encounters. I wish they'd re-release that one too.

I'd buy Chrono Trigger on the DS, but I wish it were redone like FF3 and FF4... I feel kinda ripped off buying the same game more than once as I have CT for the SNES and PSX.

While a straight port is probably the best way to stay true to the original (read: not screw up the game), it's probably not going to entice people who don't have a DS to buy one. I would rather emulate CT on a PSP in that case. If the DS port comes with extras in-game, and artwork (like a poster) or other collectibles, I may be enticed to buy a DS just for Chrono Trigger. What I would really like is a true, 3D remake that follows the original storyline and style of CT, but I know that is hoping for too much, since it is difficult to get the original CT creators to sign off/contribute to a project, and Square probably wouldn't put the money and effort to a full remake.

square already has a working engines due to the 32 remake for ff3, ff4, and a boatload of DragonQuest games, all of which are individually about as much work as a remake of CT. The only reason SE would not do so is because they are aware of the popularity of CT, and can make boatloads of money on the DS just selling the port, while planning a 3d remake down the line to make another boatload of cash (perhaps on the PSP).

I haven't touched my DS in 6 months at least, while I play my PSP everyday. I guess it's just preference. *shrug*

There are just too many games on DS. If you have access to JPN import games there are even more games to play, ZOMG! The JPN version of Elite Beat Angels is way better than the US version, and there are 2 of them! Too bad I can't read Japanese, just doing trail and error button pushing.
