Companies have been turning to lump sum payments, bonuses, Christmas bonuses, signing bonuses, etc. rather than increasing base wages as a way to hold down holiday pay and retirement.

So yeah, I got $1000.

My boss gave $100 bonuses last year for public show to our company's clients. And then in January cut our paychecks by 1/3.

Lucky, I'm moving on to a better company next year.
