My entire life is beset with intolerance, and stupidity because I happen to have been born in a country founded on Puritanism. Even the non-religious in this country base 99% of their morality on the Bible, and I have to pay the price every day, so every chance I get to inform the religious of their infinite stupidity, I RELISH.

You mistake my facepalm. It's simply a reaction to the course this thread is going to take.

I'm not religious in the slightest either, I've just learned that pointing out these things on Anandtech just draws us downwards into an infinite spiral of doom until, fittingly, the god-like moderators appear with their banstick or simply lock the thread.

I'd also disagree that our morality (or any morality) is bible-based.

True that. Our morality is based in the fact that we are herd-animals. Not to mention this country wasn't founded in puritanism - it just happened that many of the early controllers of wealth were puritans. Nowadays those who control the wealth are actually a-religious, as a corporation can't really 'believe' in something, but its politicians can obviously wield religion to divide the citizens.

The problem isn't that our morality is bible-based, it's that our immorality is bible-based. People love obscure nonsensical religious texts because it allows them to pull out random passages to excuse that they're doing. Want to hate gays? Sure, find one single verse. Want to blow up abortion clinics, sure, you can twist something to mean that god wants that. You can pretty much find a couple of archaic words that can mean anything you want so that you're not a sinner or a criminal, you're one of the true believers doing holy work. :roll:

The day they ban popcorn from theaters in the US is the day I stop going to the movies. I even have a distribution system to make sure the butter flavored topping (TM) gets evenly distributed throughout the bag.

And if you don't like it, just start your own religion, or find a "different translation" of the same text. There are lots of options to choose from.

It's funny how they're all the "one true religion." Maybe the one true religion died out eons ago. Or maybe it won't be created for another 500,000 years.

Yes, trolling is a verb that describes a method of fishing whereby you drag a line behind a moving boat. Yes, trolling is also another verb that describes gay men cruising night clubs to pick up underage boys. A troll is also another noun that describes a certain type of internet news forum member.

Here you are exhibiting at least 2/4 of those widely accepted definitions for the term.

You don't have to agree with that, but that also doesn't make you right about how others perceive your comments.

How is what you are doing not baiting? That's the definition of baiting. What, do you expect a Christian to see that statement and just say, "Hmmm, maybe he has a point," and move on? i was raised protestant and am an atheist, getting over it is a really, really good idea.
