Fundamentalists sure do know how to pick and choose what to take literally though.

I think its more the liberal Christianity that is prevalent in the country that is guilty of that. Things like homosexuality, creation, women's rights, etc. which are clearly spoken about in the Bible is ignored in preference to more PC views.

Of course, conversative Christianity is guilty of, like you say, getting caught up in building bigger church buildings, and nicer media equipment and building their ministry than they are actually making a difference in the world for Jesus.

But there still are those who sell all their possessions and spend all their money helping the poor... I know personally know many people who do that, and despite the hypocricy that is so prevalent, I know there are some who genuinely are selfless. That's why almost all of my tithe/offering goes to missionaries I know personally.

So I have said many many times. A literal interpretation of the Bible is similar to interpreting exactly to the letter of the law. It is simply an excuse for violating the spirit of it.

Well I would say many people do it to help others but their are some who do it for their own reasons (money, fame, ect.). Most people have good intentions but the few how don't really make the rest look bad.

Wow, Gandhi said that? He was so on the money with that comment...

Personally I would rather not follow any religion... but believe in practicing some sort of spirtualism.

There are always a few bad examples of any point, but I would say the majority of these large Christian churches are building and growing and spending lots of money to reach people and get the message out about Jesus and what He has done.

Unfortunately, the way the world works is that when someone in position of authority in the Christian church does something wrong, he is put in the spotlight and then many think that what he did wrong represents all christians when in fact, all it represents is his own infallability. It does not justify what some pastors do that is wrong, and they are supposed to live a life that reflects Jesus Christ, but unfortunately most people and many on this board are quick to judge all of Christianity based on a few peoples mistakes.

Isn't the Catholic church the richest organization in the world? I thought I read that somewhere...

What you heard is far from the truth of the matter!!

Just look at individual Catholic churches.....they are hardly rich!!

But if you take into account how priceless most of the art work and other items are in alot of the European Catholic churches then I would agree somewhat with that statementand the catholic being rich!!
But poor in liquid assetts!

Funny, my Methodist minister drives an old Chevy and lives in the small parsonage at my hometown church.

Over-generalize much?

I know for a fact the high up people fly around in private jets.

And your point is? Do you have any idea how much time it takes to fly to another country commercially to hold an evangelistic campaign? These private jets help them fly to other countries and be back in time to preach on Sunday morning. I see nothing wrong with that. If you are suggesting some use their minstry jets for private vacations and such, well if they did that is completely illegal and should be dealt with.

high up like the president of christianity....

No more like the people in charge of the large congregations, or those that take large amounts of money in donations. Go to the big Christian convention every year and you'd be surprised how many private jets you'll see at the local airport.

I'm just curious, what is the Catholic view of

i said catholic = christian

christian is a general term for anyone who believes in christ. when people say christian, though, it genereally refers to protestants/evangelists/etc, as opposed to catholic (which is a particular type of christianity, just like the above)

Hasn't happened in the 187 year history of my hometown church. Appreciate your prejudice though.

Yeah, well I'd say those people got the last laugh. What do you think Jesus would say if he took a tour of the Vatican?
