Not necessarily. I sent my rebate in during 10/2007, and still haven't received it yet.

Ouch...that sucks....

What store did you order from?

Available now @ NewEgg for $90 plus $7 ship.

Maybe they've stopped making it, which would be the explanation for the higher price...perhaps I should order sooner than later

Well this kinda sucks

IP35-E just went out of stock, and I JUST finished getting my Nintendo DS stuff sold so I'd have enough money to buy all the parts I need.

Any more motherboard recommendations?

It was in stock yesterday, but no one else has it other than newegg, so there's a decent chance that it won't be around for a long time.

Its just what I've been told, but SerpentRoyal did a review of it here:

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2063989&enterthread=y

It's been shown to give pretty good results for oc'ing the E21xx series too:

http://forums.anandtech.com/me...=2099932&enterthread=y

On another note, I took another look at some ram, since I don't think I'd go for the HP Ram, because it costs too much before rebate. Also, the retailers, except for costcentral, all seem to be a gamble on reliability. Can someone tell me which of these is best? I'd be going with the IP35-E or the Gigabyte DS3L. All are 2x 1GB stick sets:

Crucial Ballistix DDR2 667: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820146567
-$41.99 after $15 MIR
Kingston DDR2 667 http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820134046
-$38.99
Kingston ValuRAM DDR2 800 http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820134117
-$44.99
Mushkin DDR2 800 http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820146118
-$49.99

The Kingston DDR2 667 for $38.99 seems like a good deal.

Run well at default settings and 1.8V DDR2 667 or 800 RAM. Can easily overlock any Intel CPU up to 500MHz FSB. Can control the speed of 2 wire and/or 3 wire fan based on CPU or SYSTEM temp. You may need 14 BIOS if you want to run 45nm chips. I didn't see any FSB hole with my E2140, E4300, and E6320 from 200 to 490MHz FSB.

There's a big thread about IP35-E @ MB forum. IP35-E is basically an IP35 Pro minus 1394a, SATA, RAID, and extra SATA ports. It's the best sub $90 overclocking board today.

How far do you want to overclock? Kingston N5 DDR2 667 is the best deal if you don't need to push the FSB speed above 400MHz. Note that the N5 DDR2 400 is only $6 more, but should be able to run @ 450MHz. These chips do not come with rebate.

Thanks for the info. Have read several posts declaring the Abit board to be better but no body had given a reason for that opinion. The only discernible difference from the Newegg spec lists was an extra PCIe 1x slot and 4 more USB ports on the Gigabyte board.

From your list of positives for the Abit board, the 2 wire fan speed control is the only one that I wish were a feature of my P35-DS3L. However I quite quickly settled into a 8x400 overclock with an E2180 thus never explored the upper FSB limit nor tried enough combinations to see any FSB hole the board may exhibit.

It appears both are strong performers and good bargain boards for the overclocker.

I was hoping to overclock to at least 3.2 ghz on a E2160 on the Abit IP35-E or the Gigabyte DS3L, but I'd like to push to 3.4/3.5 if possible. Which ram would I need to do that? What processor would you recommend for that as well? I'm trying to spend less than $200, but that seems unlikely what with the cost of the motherboard being $90. If I could save on that, I would, but I don't think I can get a good overclock on a cheaper motherboard.

Also, what do you think about buying a used motherboard and used RAM? Do you think that would cause me any problems?

The IP35-E has a PWM heat sink. That's very important if you want to push a quad north of 3.7GHz. The Gigabyte board cannot effectively cool the PWM under extreme current load.

I've seen folks with 100C PWM on IP35-E because there is no active air flow to the PWM heat sink.

HP or Kingston N5 DDR2 667 will do the job if you have a capable CPU. E2160 is a good buy. You may be limited to about 3.2GHz if you go with E2140 (8x multi).

If you're short on cash, then definitely invest in the HP RAM. Your $ is safe with HP. Just make a photocopy of the paperwork. I wouldn't reload another four modules if I wasn't 99.999% sure that I will get my rebate $.

I would not buy used board/RAM unless I can test it before purchase.

IP35-E...$100
E2160...$60
2GB HP RAM...$14

Saw it last month in this forum. NewEgg is not the cheapest source for CPU. I paid around $75 for my E4300s. E2140 has been selling for $60 @ Microcenter. I didn't have any problem pushing my E2140 up to 3.3GHz. I couldn't tell the difference in speed between 3.0GHz and 3.3GHz under normal use.

Interesting...I actually have a Micro Center nearby.

I see the E2140 for $60 at Micro Center, but the E2160 is $80. The TigerDirect by me WAS selling the OEM E2140 for $60, but they don't stock it anymore.

Were you using HP memory and the IP35-E to hit 3.3 ghz on the E2140?

Oh crap, i just realized that means I have to pay tax :(

I'll have to buy a cooler too. I should probably order the Hyper TX2 tonight...

Yup...412MHz FSB with 2.0Vdimm and 5-5-5-15-2T timing. All of my sticks would run well up to 408MHz. Three were good up to 419MHz. That's why I think 400MHz is a more achievable maximum speed. Anything north of 3.0GHz is blazing fast.

TX2 should yield an easy 3.2GHz overclock.

Darn, Microcenter is down. So I guess I'll go with the E2140 then.

Do you know where else sells the IP35-E besides Newegg? I think I might be forced to buy the DS3L.

I'm going to watch TheNerds.net and see if the less-than $5 a stick HP Ram comes back.

Just ordered the Hyper TX2 Cooling Fan. I don't want to miss out on $20 savings.

What is the receipt they need for the rebate? Is it the page you go to after you buy, or is it the invoice in the package you receive?

So, right now, since I can't find an IP35-E, I think the specs would be as follows:

Intel Pentium Dual Core E2140 - $65 from Micro Center (tax included)
Gigabyte DS3L Motherboard - $90 w/Free Shipping from ZipZoomFly
Cooler Master Hyper TX2 CPU Heatsink/Fan - $7.83 Shipped from Newegg.com (after $20 MIR)
2 GB HP Ram - $15 (after $40 MIR), various stores

So I'm hoping the total cost will come out to: $177.83-ish, $237.83 before rebates

If anyone has anymore advice on saving money on this system, that would be much appreciated. I'm going to keep my eye on TheNerds.net. Hopefully they'll get more in stock soon.

You can mail in the e-mail invoice showing the TX2's price, name of retailer, and date of purchase.

Alright, thanks for letting me know.

I made the thread asking whether I should buy the DS3L or wait for the IP35-E. I really do think that the IP35-E has been discontinued though. It certainly seems that way.
