Chomsky is awesome and 'maybe the most important intellectual alive today.'
If you are really interested in Chomsky, I would recommend reading Manufacturing Consent. This is his masterpiece.
Chomsky is really good at researching factual information in order to point out the hypocrisy in the arguments of many of him adversaries. The great part about how he writes is that every argument he uses is referenced and documented, usually at the back of the book.
I recommend you read this guy's stuff. Just be aware, when you talk about this guy in public, people are going to call you un-American and the like. GL

While your at the library, I suggest you look into Chomsky's repeating of communist propaganda during the 1970's that the genocide in Cambodia was not happening.

Yea, i hate him. When i was in grad school at berkeley he came to talk. This was right around the time the president sh!t for brains was pounding the war drum. He was there for two talks, both sold out (although tickets were free) very quick. Everyone was anticipating a great social commentary on the recent rhetoric being spewed by the admin. He gave two HORRIBLY boring linguistics talks. I went the second night because there were tickets available after his linguistics talk the night before. I hoped he would actually talk about the social situation at the time since he wasted his first night on linguistics, but he didnt. I hate him for that...

isn't linguistics chomsky's area of expertise? I thought that was what made him famous, and his actually scientific credentials.

Thanks MAW1082 and GOPhatesUSA. I've actually watched a few hours of footage on him (around 5 or 6 hrs worth) and he is very well-spoken and makes a well-supported point about whatever topic he is discussing.

My advise is to go. Even if you walk away totally disagreeing with him at least you'll know it is him you disagree with and not someone else's strawman.
