Been having back and leg pains. Been going to a MD but so far they have been giving me drugs that are not working. One drug did (Effexor) but had bad side affects. I'm thinking of going to a Chiorpractor anybody out there been to one and did they do any good?
Thanks in advance

Why'd they give you a depression drug for back pain?

Have you gotten a second opinion? Seen a specialist? Are the pains the result of an injury? Try physical therapy?

I've heard mixed things about chiropractors. Some people swear by them, some swear against them.

1. Go see a physical therapies.

2. Get this book "The New Back Doctor" by Hamilton Hall

I was having back pains in December. Went to see a doctor who pretty much told me to take pain medication. My friend then recommended a local physio. He gave me a bunch of stretches to do and within a week my back pain was gone.

The book is great because it explains all the different causes of back pain in easy to understand terms. It also gives you some solutions to treat the various problems. I found it good because it help me explain to the physio exactly what kind of problems I was having.

A few years ago I was seeing all kinds MD's. And was still unable to go to work. I had pain in the lower left back and shooting pain with numbness down the left leg. The muscles in the leg were so tight I was unable to place my foot flat on the ground. The pain was so bad it took 30-45 minutes to dress myself. Sometimes I could not even do it by myself. Unable to sleep, drive, work, walk, stand up,sit down,or lay down without pain.

After a month with no improvement. And surgery being the next step. I gave in and went to a Chiorpractor. In less than 3 weeks I was back at work! And off the pain meds. Their was still some pain but nothing I could not put up with.

Now I rarely have any pain and when it starts I go in for an adjustment.(avg. 1 visit per 2-3 months)

I am one of the people that swear by them.

Just a little hint in what to look for. I found a MD that was also a Chiorpractor.(or a Chiorpractor that is also a MD)😉

And like me he would rather not use meds. If it can be avoided. When I go in I get the treatment I need to control the problem. Whether its an adjustment or medication. He can provide whatever it takes.

I know other people that have gotton no improvement from chiorpractic treatments. It probaly depends on what is causing the problem.

Good Luck

I slipped a disk lifting weights a couple of months ago and pinched a nerve so bad that I would wake up 3 or 4 times a night in pain. I went to a Chiropractor which helped a lot. Adjusting my spine took the pressure off that nerve which enabled my nerve to heal (almost 100% now).

Being that it is my future profession, I am a bit biased. 🙂 However, I can say that if you can find a Chiro who is practicing the Palmer method, you are in very good hands, most likely.

From myh experience they are exactly as Homer describes. When he is done you think, "That feels a little bit better" then you walk out the door and you feel the same as when you walked in.

Your name is very close to what I think of chiropractors.

After a car accident I had persistent headaches for years, went to a Chiropractor and within two months they had disappeared. I recommend them without hesitation!
