Chipset noise

This is really bothering me, I'm not used to having this much noise coming out of my case. I've been having this noise coming from my case... just recently found it was coming from the chipset. I posted earlier about it and it was fixed then. It's almost like a LOUD humming noise and if I open my case when it's running and touch the chipset fan, it stops. Then it comes back and I have to repeat the process.... sometimes it's gone longer then other times. Sometimes it comes back right when I take my hand out of the case, it's very annoying. What could cause it to make the noise?

unplug the fan and rip it off the hs. it is not needed anyway unless you're o/c till the glue runs the stuffing box dry.

What should I do? I've never dealt with this before...

Go to the Zalman site, find the north bridge heatsinks, and watch the installation movie, that should help.

Note the NB32J comes with thermal adhesive so if even if your board doesn?t have mounting holes around the chipset you'll still be able to install it..

I'm at the zalman site.... all I can find is how to install their watercooling system, GPU cooler, and the HSF's. Nothing about the north bridge coolers... all I can do is look at them and buy them. Is it just like a HSF? or what.

There's a section there called "Northbridge Chipsets"...🙂

Thanks alot, so I can just take it off and forget about it? My rig is @ stock, nothing is oc'd...

Run the stock heatsink without the fan?

No, you can't do that.

NoNoNo. You will need to replace it with another.

What MoBo do you have?

RoD

My A78NX gets to 189 FSB fine with passive cooling on the Nforce2 northbridge. Not sure on the newer Nforce though.

Check over at SPCR. Even NF4Us seem to do perfectly fine, OC'ed, even, with the NB32j and NB47j.

North bridge.

Yeah, you can't do that. You need to replace the heatsink on the northbridge, without the fan it will quickly overheat.

What's the best thing to replace it with? I've seen alot of people with the Zalman coolers in it, as linked above.

I really don't understand what you're telling me. Do I get a new one or what do I do? you're telling me 3 different things

Ok...

Whatever is on your northbride now has to come off and be replaced. If you can link to the board you have I (or someone else) should be able help with specific details regarding the removal.

As for the replacement the best option is one of the two Zalmans I linked to in my previous post. Installation is pretty simple, basically the opposite of the removal of the hold northbridge heatsink.

Yes... now it's call clear. That is what I posted before. I asked what I should get, and asked about which one of the Zalmans (Posted above) I should get. I have the A8N SLI Deluxe, and it's that LOUD ass fan on it. The Premium replaces it with the heatpipe. Now that it's all clear.... what should I replace it with?

That board might make things more complicated since the northbridge sits directly in line with the PCIE graphics port. I guess the question now to ask is will a taller heatsink interfere with your graphics card?

No it won't, it's below it. I'm only running 1 6800GT on the board. It will have enough room.... are you saying a Zalman cooler then?
