too bad the unemployed are too lazy and will not work for minimum pay due to their high living standards.

I think chipotle pays more than minimum wage

The dude was right though:

I'm much more in favor of this type of immigration enforcement than directly going after illegals. That doesn't work because if you deport one, two more just come across the border. Take out their employers, though, and you take out the thing that's bringing them in the first place. I think srs $ should be spent on creating a nation wide e-verify system and on audits of companies to see if they're complying.

Simple, stupid solutions to keep morans at bay. It's the same as the "lets build a big fence" solution to a policy problem that neither left (voter base) or right (cheap labor for biz) will really address.

This way the politicians can go on tv and talk about addressing the issue without doing anything.

I do hate how people make this a personal issue rather a policy issue - talk of "damn illegals" and crap like that really misses the mark. Most of them are hardworking people that just want to have a better life and I personally have hard time blaming them for it; I'd much rather have people willing to pour someone's driveway to 80 bucks than some bitch getting knocked up 8-way to be on the news and collect unemployment.

It is a problem of policy of having a large contingent of unskilled, low income people entering the country though.

If so, are Americans willing to work to eliminate illegal workers if it means paying a lot more to eat out?

They already pay a lot more at Chipotle but it probably all goes into their expensive "food with a conscience." Ensuring that nothing is factory-farmed and pumped full of hormones is expensive enough and then they do things like ensure that they aren't raised in cages and overcome logistics to get the meat to the stores without ever freezing it.

Take away that government cheese and they will do it.

Either that or starve to death....again, we are solving problems here.

this....take away the ridiculous amounts of gov't assistance and those jobs will be filled quickly.

Every chipotle I've been to has people working there who barely speak english.

Never got the chance to eat at one. Too bad, sounds good with authentic mexicans working there.

But yeah, clear out the illegals. I'd take an $8/hr job before taking unemployment. Never had the need for Gov't assistance yet, don't see that changing ever.

What does it matter of authentic people are working there? It is still the same recipe.....it's not like they get the freedom to add ingredients to the beans or meat.

They're violating several US laws. If we don't put teeth in the laws and enforce them, why bother to have laws in the first place?

its not that simple.

my brother is a GM for a major restaraunt chain.

they generally have *very* legit looking SS cards ETC that 'check out' fine.

suspicion is not enough to not hire them

how can fake SS cards "check out fine"? Don't these large chains have formal background check procedures in place?

I said it before and I will say it again.

LEGALS = si. ILLEGALS = no.

Comprende? Gracias mucho.

And one more thing, there is no such thing as UNDOCUMENTED, you are either LEGAL or ILLEGAL.

<I know my Spanish sucks but you get the point>

That's a great start. If all companies would fire their illegal workers, maybe they'd all go home...do away with the jobs, they should stop coming here.

Do away with the jobs, and the crime rate increases. Yes jobs drove them here in the first place, but quality of life is overal better for most of them... even without proper work. I'd say a lot of them that are here now would try many OTHER ways to make it out here before going back to Mexico.

And to be clear, I'm not saying this because they're Mexican... I'm saying if you suddenly make life difficult for any group of people they get desperate. A group that large is bound to have a number of them willing to steal if they have to, now that they can't work. They won't get the government help other out of work folk do.

It's one of those cases where I don't like the sheer volume of illegal workers, but they've become so integrated into the country that it may cause more issues if we started doing something about them.

Chiptole is not any more expensive than say Carls Jr.

Actually nothing you said is even related to what he proposed which was an e-verify system for employers which would allow for actual americans to hold low paying jobs instead of illegals. Unless you think building a fence is the same thing which is pretty funny. (That was aside from the Rex Ryan incoherent rambling about how people are making it "personal" and something about the octomom collecting unemployment.)

And if they commit crimes they will end up in prison. Which is still probably better than where they came from so it's win win for them. Americans get to keep their jobs, and illegals get to have a better life in prison or go home. Everybody wins when employers like Chipotle act responsibly.

What prisons? They're all damn near full. They'll max them out, maybe put up some more, so taxes get upped. Plus there's all the people the mexicans committed crime against... so really the only people who win are the ones causing the issue.

All it takes is 1 decision from the top.

Exactly. A single memo to all "If you do not verify employment eligibility with all diligence you will be terminated immediately. If you do not report violations of eligibility you will be terminated immediately. If you knowingly hire an illegal, you will be terminated immediately. If you do not follow these rules your franchise agreement will be revoked immediately.

Signed,
The Boss"

Done. Problem solved.

Every chipotle i have been to in the Denver metro area had people working that could not speak english.

Sad thing is, half of them were probably High School Grads!! 😉

As stated earlier, eliminating all social programs just ramps up crime. You get more criminal organizations as well that rely on the desperate situation to get ignorant uneducated individuals to pledge themselves to the cause.

The reason could be "Heratage", "Family" or "religion". It does not matter. It happens all the time.

THESE groups then make it harder for those that are left to eek out a living on the wages they can get, and even harder to maintain order and a good civil structure in the country (everything from roatways to education suffers).

Throwing money at a problem may not be the solution, but neither is just shutting it off completely and focing many to do whatever they can to survive.

If one out of 10 decide that is not Wal Mart or Chipotle... we have a problem that will cost more than just keeping them fed.

"They're all damn near full". Where? What state are you talking about? Privatization of prisons is a booming industry.

Put them in prison if they want to break the law and make them work for pennies like in Maryland.
http://www.truth-out.org/041609LA

With the foreign workers who have long done the dirty work in Maryland's seafood industry held up by red tape, desperate owners of the Eastern Shore's processing plants are investigating a new source of crab pickers: state prisoners.

...But Maryland law would allow it; inmates already do jobs that include making furniture and butchering meat in the state's prisons.

It's win win if they want to commit a crime and go to prison. They'll still help with the labor problem, except it won't be voluntary. Or, they can go home.

Kudos to Chipotle.
