Ironically, due to China's draconian laws, they might get the death penalty

The idea that human life is of real inherent value is not one universally shared.

Chinese Internet responses to slave children case

A group of fathers from Henan province recently ventured to brick kilns in Shanxi province to rescue their children, who were abducted and illegally forced to work as slaves...

After rescuing around 40 children, the fathers? rescue efforts were obstructed by the local police, who were supposed to protect innocent people but instead were in alliance with the kiln owners. Exhausting all reasonable approaches and obtaining no responses from the government, the fathers had to seek help from the Internet. They published a moving open letter on June 7 on Tianya Club...

The letter brought about an outburst of public opinion supporting the rescue campaign and calling for the central government to interfere. On June 13, Wang Zhaoguo , member of the China Communist Party politburo, expressed his concern over the issue. One of the owners was immediately put on the wanted list by the police as a class B criminal.

the government has also sought to minimize the effect of the affair on the 'harmonious society'. On June 15, China Digital Times translated a letter purporting to be from 'The Internet Bureau, CPC Central Office of External Communication' which ordered news websites that 'Harmful information that uses this event to attack the party and the government should be deleted as soon as possible.'

This is one of many reasons that many people are boycotting China.

This is only one of many reasons why I go out of my way to NOT buy products Made in China...almost any other country but China...(or Vietnam, but that's for different reasons)

Almost everything is made is China these days... that must be almost an exercise in futility to avoid Chinese made products.

As long as it doesn't disrupt the flow of cheap goods to walmart I don't care if they're slaughtering kittens and puppies and burning them to power the factories.

Both of you are correct. It's difficult as hell to find things NOT made in China, but with a few exceptions, it can be done. (electronics, computer parts, etc. forget it, ALL made in China..no options)
BUT, if you believe America and American workers are worth it, and I do, then by taking a bit of time before making purchases, and spending a bit more $$$ when you find them, most articles can be found that are Made in the USA.
When I don't have American Made as an option, I then opt for something made in a "Free Country" as compared to any Communist country. (Better Dead than Red; Kill a Commie for your Mommie" :D

A lot of electronics are made in Taiwan. Unfortunately every video card I've seen is made in China-- but at least when you buy things like that you are supporting decent jobs in China.

Why don't companies that use factories elsewhere advertise that? Like the "Made in America" label, we could have "Made in a Free Country"

Agreed. I don't even think we should waste our time with an aerial attack. We should storm the beaches like we did at Normandy and show them how powerful our massive army of troops is.

It's exactly posts like these that really bother me. You've got to either be really ignorant to human trafficking around the world or simply want to jump on the China bashing bandwagon these days. The fact of the matter is in third world countries in Asia and Africa, the value of human life isn't what it is here. They have too many mouths to feed and not enough food to feed them with. In order to survive, these detestable violations of basic human rights occur.

Has it ever occurred to you that thousands upon thousands of children die every day from completely preventable diseases that arise out of malnutrition? As poor the conditions and low the pay, at least these kids are getting food to eat. China's getting a bad rap for poor quality products but has it ever occurred to you that Wal-Marts demands for cheaper and cheaper products forced these manufacturers to try and cut costs however they can? The end result is that they have to find sources of cheaper labor and cheaper materials; thus human trafficking, child labor and lead paint become part of the manufacturing process. We as consumers are just as complicit in these violations as the manufacturers and the likes of Wal-Mart.

For every "Made in the USA" product, where do the materials come from? There is a good chance that they are from China and simply assembled in the USA. Instead of boycotting China, which is utterly meaningless in the grand scheme of things, why not donate your money to charity whose mission is to help those children living in an environment that perpetuates this vicious cycle?

yes blame walmart instead of these specific greedy manufacturers who are hiring child laborers in order to make more money. Everyone just blames walmart. just like everyone who calls for boycotting china. blame walmart, boycot china, blame walmart boycott china, blame walmart, boycott china. blah.

walmart is forcing me to use slave child labor in order to get by. boohoo... yeah right :disgust:
