Could it be that stupidity strikes because a family member of the government is bitten.

I don' t think a beggar with rabies from dog bites would cull 50K canines.

Well you forgot to take into account the difference between disposable income of US and Chinese govt. What may be cakewalk for US (cost of shots either paid by the govt. or the owner) might be an impossibility for the Chinese...

The Chinese Government has plenty of money. You, apparently, are an apologist for this type of behavior. China just chooses to spend their money elsewhere. Period. You should look at their revenues and economic strength. Their government has plenty of money to spend on defense and prosecuting the Falun Gong, but fvck no should they spend a dime on easily available and cheap rabies vaccinations. They are too busy imprisoning the owner of Apex or coddling Kim Jong-Il.

Chooses! Why not?

Doesn't the US choose building F-22 over developing vaccines for mad cow disease, so that it does not have to kill thousands of cows? What's wrong if the chinese choose to spend their money someplace else?

I in no way condone them beating the dogs to death in front of their owners, but I do not disagree with them trying to prevent the spread of disease. You don't need another epidemic like SARS or bird flu...

China has seen a major rise in the number of rabies cases in recent years, with 2,651 reported deaths from the disease in 2004,

And up to 50,000 die each of from rabies in the World...for China (having such a large population) 2,651 doesn't seem so huge.

Hell, India alone reports ~30,000 deaths a year caused by rabies. The problem is just as much about poor human healthcare, as it is lack of vaccinations for the dogs.

Face it, there is no justification in taking ones property (dog) and killing it for no reason.

Unless if there is no way for the government to slow down the rise of rabies besides the killing of dogs in areas with infection.

Do you read the words you type? They didn't merely kill the infected dogs, or even just the strays...they killed peoples' healthy dogs...or they paid them 63 cents do it themselves.

Again, this is about a persons property being taken away from them (the dogs being beaten to death), when it didn't have to be.

This is one of the GOD DAMN reasons why i hate China.... they are stupid when things like this are a problem.
P.S. I am of chinese descent <-- i think thats how you spell it... well anyways ... another reason why i am now proud of it

Edit: Damn half of the ppl in China have diseases ... i guess they should all be killed too.... I wouldnt give a rats ass if that happened... i feel more sympathy towards animals then i do humans

I bet the VAST majority of them didn't have any shots, and it doesn't have to do with the government. Only in the first world is it considered "normal" to spend lots of money on a pet, even if you can.

Article says 3% (which is surprisingly high to me), but that's pets owned by city dwellers...

it's more wrong that lebanese just sit there and do nothing while hezbollah wreaks havoc. either means 1) lebanon support them or 2) they're incapable of stopping them. either way israel has moral superiority when fighting this war.

Neither of them have any "moral" superiority. They're both dirty, dirty, dirty.
