People should be more concerned with the human right's violations.

Ummm... WTF does that have to do with this? Can't you be concerned about multiple things at the same time

Sure we can be concerned w/multiple things at the same time, but in the grand scheme of things, is a dog's life more significant than a human being's?

To me, my dogs' lives are worth more than yours is. In fact most dogs are worth more than most people.

Do you wanna volunteer to check all 50K dogs for rabies? Are you donating money for such a task? Yeah, I don't think so. In the end Human Life > Dog Life. Oh BTW, for all you people hating on the Chinese government for killing 50K dogs, your US government's not doing so "bad" on killing dogs too, just more incognito. While down from previous years, US animal shelters kill more than 4.2 million dogs a year.

Jesus fvcking Christ its amazing how many of you got so roused up over dogs. Worry about all the people dying on this planet, not stupid pets. I'd much rather sleep knowing I don't have rabies at the cost of losing my pet than go to sleep foaming at the fvcking mouth. FFS, worry about something useful.

Whatever... you would be singing a different tune if someone came to your house and beat your pets to death.

I'm pretty sure it's a violation of my human rights if some government comes, takes my dog, then kills it in front of me. Abuse to animals isn't the only thing going on here. If you can't see the "human rights violations" here then you're a blind moron.

Exactly what "human right" covers the slaughter of your pet in front of you? The only relevant part of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that I can see is:

Article 5.
No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

So, there is a kind of fuzzy connection between the horrific act of having your dog killed in front of you and "cruel treatment", but to call someone a blind moron for not seeing it is being just a tad bit prone to hyperbole...

If it was to keep from neighbors from getting rabies? I'm sorry, to me, one human life is worth those of 50,000 animals, I wouldn't give a flaming sh!t if I had to put a pet down to keep it from spreading something horrible.

Is he not arguing the owners human right of not having his pet beaten to death in front of him?

They had that right, the article says the gov't was actually paying people to put their dogs down before the deadlines.

You just don't get it do you? Whywould you accept your pet being beaten to death if you kept it fenced or even inside all the time? What threat is it to your neighbor? Rabies isn't like a cold that might travel through the air to your neighbor. Using your reasoning we might as well start killing everyone's pets right now... you know, just to be safe.

Isn't that a little too specific for an essential human right?

Nothing wrong with killing the Chinese dogs.

It's the seizure and destruction of private property without due process of law that's a real bitch. They should compensate the owner in some way as well.

This reminds me, the Chinese have a special bus(es) full of execution equipment which they drive around and perform executions on people.

Who said it was the end of the world? I'm just tired or people saying, "Well, it's not the worst thing in the world so we should even worry about it". It makes little sense to think like that.

It's kind of interesting if you use a metric shorthand.

kilo = 1000 so
50000 dogs = 50 kilo-dogs ~ 50 kill-a-dogs

um westerners still euthanize millions of dogs a year.

No, actually, it does not. Mad Cow is very hard to track and is spread through feed and its byproducts. Rabies is NOT spread that way nor spread like the Flu.

Well you forgot to take into account the difference between disposable income of US and Chinese govt. What may be cakewalk for US (cost of shots either paid by the govt. or the owner) might be an impossibility for the Chinese...

I think the more important issue is that pet owners had their pet taken away and killed with paltry 63 cents compensation. WTF....

Also keep in mind the usual media exaggeration of these kinds of things.

and in all seriousness, its pretty sick that most people get so emotionally attached to dogs, but couldnt care less about the lebanese getting slaughtered

Exactly, and besides, once the people contract rabies, we won't have to worry about that now will we. :p
