Next time you hear about an accident between a smart car and a Hummer, it won't be the Smart car passengers who'll die.

i'm pretty sure it will not be the same hummers as we have on american roads right now. those cars are big pieces of shit. you must love bashing "made in china" goods. i bet you have at least 20 items within 20 feet of you "made in china" are they broken?
and btw if the "hummer" is the same car, i'm pretty sure the same death results would happen if a smart was hit.

There hasn't been a single chinese designed and built car to pass united states crash test standards and they've tried in the past. All hummers built by GM passed those crash tests. You can say what you want about build quality, but the safety of Chinese built cars has not been comparable to even the worst cars sold in the US.

Honestly, who gives a fuck. I wouldn't buy a Chinese car nor would I buy a Hummer.

Not that I would ever buy a hummer as I am not into SUVs but this would make me want one less, much like Tata's ownership just furthers my dislike for Rover and Jag.

Nothing. The Chinese company bought the Hummer brand which only sells the H2 and H3, which are based off GM platforms.Originally posted by: waffleironhead
SO what does this do to the defense supplied hummers? Are they still made/supplied by the same company as the retail hummers? I doubt the Pentagon would like to purchase their defense vehicles from china.

some small digging informed me that Brilliance Auto manufactures and sells BMW 3 & 5 series sedans in China...
"The Company (through its 49.5% indirectly owned company, BMW Brilliance Automotive Limited) manufactures and sells all of its sedans under the "BMW" brand name in China. On 27th March, 2003, the Company (through its 98% indirectly owned subsidiary) entered into a joint venture contract with BMW Holding BV in relation to the establishment of the joint venture to manufacture, assemble and sale of the latest version of the BMW-designed and branded passenger cars, engines, parts and components in China. The 3-series and 5-series BMW sedans produced by the joint venture were launched in the Chinese sedan market in November 2003. The BMW joint venture also launched new versions of the 3-series and 5 series in September 2005 and November 2006, respectively. The BMW sedans are targeted at the premium sedan market in China."

So? Selling BMW's automatically won't make the BS6 automatically start passing crash tests. What does selling BMW's have to do with anything?

I'll bet China wants the Hummers for their military.

i dont care who bought the company, but i wonder why. can hummer actually turn a profit? if so then why did gm sell it in the first place? if not, then why would anyone want to buy a sinking ship?

It gives China military technology that probably would have cost more to develop independently.
