Chinese company to buy Hummer.

i'm pretty sure it will not be the same hummers as we have on american roads right now. those cars are big pieces of shit. you must love bashing "made in china" goods. i bet you have at least 20 items within 20 feet of you "made in china" are they broken?

and btw if the "hummer" is the same car, i'm pretty sure the same death results would happen if a smart was hit.

There is already a car company in China making clone HMMWV's, I wonder if it is the same place that bought it.

google 'chinese crash test video.'

and nearly everything made in china i've had breaks (anything with any mechanical or electric/electronic guts, that is. i guess they make okay...coat hangers...and tupperware...). you're confusing china with the other asian countries who often produce quality goods.

not that i think they'll do much to what they're acquiring. they'll probably just keep selling rebodied GM trucks to whoever will buy them.

There hasn't been a single chinese designed and built car to pass united states crash test standards and they've tried in the past. All hummers built by GM passed those crash tests. You can say what you want about build quality, but the safety of Chinese built cars has not been comparable to even the worst cars sold in the US.

I believe that was the first vehicle to receive a 0 on Euro crash tests (Germany, I believe)

Honestly, who gives a fuck. I wouldn't buy a Chinese car nor would I buy a Hummer.

the difference being a chinese car like the Brilliance BS6 will fold like a deck of cards, while a current hummer, however Stupid and Useless of a Vehicle it may be (😉), does stand up to current crash standards.

Not that I would ever buy a hummer as I am not into SUVs but this would make me want one less, much like Tata's ownership just furthers my dislike for Rover and Jag.

I wouldn't either. I was just responding to Louisssss basically claiming that a Hummer made in China would be better than one made in the US apparently just because they wouldn't be made in the US.

Tata, an Indian company, own Range Rover. Nanjing(sic), a Chinese company, own Rover/MG.

It's called "Brilliance" because everytime it hits something the Occupants see a bright light.

People have been making fun of Kia, being Killed In Action. Same about Hyundai for a while. And yet, Chinese car companies are far worse than any Korean company. Your Hyundai Elantra will feel like Lexus or BMW, once you drive Chinese car.

Of course, they may catch Korean and American, then Japanese and European in the future, but not now. Car is not like any other "Made in China" product, which you can make one pretty close with a blueprint given.

I hate Hummer, and I don't care to whom it is sold, but truth is truth.

I guess everyone missed the fact that the Brilliance was improved from a 0 star up to 3 in only a couple months. Not saying it's a great car, but they can move pretty quick.

SO what does this do to the defense supplied hummers? Are they still made/supplied by the same company as the retail hummers? I doubt the Pentagon would like to purchase their defense vehicles from china.

Nothing. The Chinese company bought the Hummer brand which only sells the H2 and H3, which are based off GM platforms.

AM General still owns rights to the HMMWV and will continue to build it for the military. The civilian version, the H1, was discontinued a few years ago.

some small digging informed me that Brilliance Auto manufactures and sells BMW 3 & 5 series sedans in China...

"The Company (through its 49.5% indirectly owned company, BMW Brilliance Automotive Limited) manufactures and sells all of its sedans under the "BMW" brand name in China. On 27th March, 2003, the Company (through its 98% indirectly owned subsidiary) entered into a joint venture contract with BMW Holding BV in relation to the establishment of the joint venture to manufacture, assemble and sale of the latest version of the BMW-designed and branded passenger cars, engines, parts and components in China. The 3-series and 5-series BMW sedans produced by the joint venture were launched in the Chinese sedan market in November 2003. The BMW joint venture also launched new versions of the 3-series and 5 series in September 2005 and November 2006, respectively. The BMW sedans are targeted at the premium sedan market in China."

So? Selling BMW's automatically won't make the BS6 automatically start passing crash tests. What does selling BMW's have to do with anything?

it doesn't it was just something i didn't know about until i passed by their site.

passing crash tests. you know any car coming out of china WILL be cheaper as any = car made in america assuming all else is constant just because of the cheaper more efficient labor.

if they wanted to make a mid-sized family sedan that would compete w/ the malibu @ 25-30k they will... actually anything is possible if you're willing to pay for it.

Except they didn't get the company that makes the military humvees. AM General makes the military humvees and is contracted by GM to make the H2 but GM does not own any part of the company. I guess they could make military H2s if they really want to.

i dont care who bought the company, but i wonder why. can hummer actually turn a profit? if so then why did gm sell it in the first place? if not, then why would anyone want to buy a sinking ship?

It gives China military technology that probably would have cost more to develop independently.
