I still find it funny that as a single man, over 30, no tickets or accidents and I STILL pay more for insurance than my GF who has tickets and accidents on her record and is younger than men.
Oh well, not much we can do about it. Also, don't believe all the demographics out there. I've seen the data USAA uses and it's interesting. Basically men have a increased tendency to speed compared to women before the age of thirty. After the age of thirty women actually tend to speed more then men. Women on average have MORE incidents and accidents at any age, but because at younger ages they are going much slower then men when they have an accident it is not as severe. Less fatalities for women drivers when they are involved in an accident at younger ages.
Women are basically on average worse drivers and parkers than men, but since they typically are driving slower when they get into an accident, the damage is never really severe or costly. As women age and their estrogen drops and testosterone increases, they drive a bit faster and with more risk, but they also got a bit more experience to be slightly better drivers than they were when younger.
Men are typically better "drivers" in the sense of having a better sense of speed and spatial awareness and coordination. They have less total accidents, but usually have quite a few more moving tickets such as speeding, failure to yield, and reckless driving. When young men do get into an accident, the severity is worse and has a higher chance to cause fatalities. This changes as they get older and the testosterone levels drop. They remain better drivers than women, and no longer do the speeding and reckless driving on average.
The problem I have is that insurance companies don't change their pricing accordingly. At ages 16-25 men are far more costly for insurance companies. Between 30 and 50, women are more costly than men in the same age catagory. However, the insurance companies usually just keep charging men the extra nickle at all age ranges if they are single.
