A Chinese provincial shopping center is opening a special parking lot soon exclusively for women drivers that will include extra lighting and wider spaces to keep down the number of collisions, the Global Times reports.

"The lot offers wider parking spaces especially designed for female drivers, who tend to cause twice as many collisions in parking lots than in other places, according to insurance company data," the Global Times says.

ahh the peanut patrol. Racism and sexism all rolled into one bite sized morsel. Your parents should be proud.

i think they should get special parking places. near the entrance, in well-lit areas.

so there's the parking for people in wheelchairs, closest to the entrance.

then the women's parking, set up to make it as safety and to accomodate their unique driving habits.

and then the parking spaces for the rest of us.

I've been in three accidents, two involved women. One she slammed on her breaks in the rain because a dog ran by, I was in the passenger seat, speed limit was 45, we couldn't stop in time because it was wet. The second one was my fault I'll admit I ran a red light, but the woman who hit me didn't swerve out of the way or step on the breaks. She slammed into me. Why? She was doing her makeup and didn't see me.

I have male and female friends, I have more male friends than female friends, the amount of accidents is disproportional to the amount of females there are to males. One of my female friends has totaled 3 cars. The best part is she pays less for insurance than I do and I don't even have a ticket on my record, just an accident that happened just shy of 3 years ago.

It might be sexist, but I would say on average women are worse drivers than men. There are exceptions and I even know a few, but I would still say on average from my experiences women are worse.

I have seen women make more mistakes as drivers as where I have seen more men purposely take a dumb risk and get in a wreck.

So wider parking spaces are sexist but higher insurance rates for men isn't?

It's called segregation... >.> And I never said that higher insurance rates for men wasn't sexist, did I? Stop making a fool of yourself.

And what if you're intersex? :hmm:

This. The women are by and large unaware of the world around them. They are in their own little bubble, doing whatever they want while hurling a few thousand pounds of metal down the road, alone as far as they perceive.

I still find it funny that as a single man, over 30, no tickets or accidents and I STILL pay more for insurance than my GF who has tickets and accidents on her record and is younger than men.

Oh well, not much we can do about it. Also, don't believe all the demographics out there. I've seen the data USAA uses and it's interesting. Basically men have a increased tendency to speed compared to women before the age of thirty. After the age of thirty women actually tend to speed more then men. Women on average have MORE incidents and accidents at any age, but because at younger ages they are going much slower then men when they have an accident it is not as severe. Less fatalities for women drivers when they are involved in an accident at younger ages.

Women are basically on average worse drivers and parkers than men, but since they typically are driving slower when they get into an accident, the damage is never really severe or costly. As women age and their estrogen drops and testosterone increases, they drive a bit faster and with more risk, but they also got a bit more experience to be slightly better drivers than they were when younger.

Men are typically better "drivers" in the sense of having a better sense of speed and spatial awareness and coordination. They have less total accidents, but usually have quite a few more moving tickets such as speeding, failure to yield, and reckless driving. When young men do get into an accident, the severity is worse and has a higher chance to cause fatalities. This changes as they get older and the testosterone levels drop. They remain better drivers than women, and no longer do the speeding and reckless driving on average.

The problem I have is that insurance companies don't change their pricing accordingly. At ages 16-25 men are far more costly for insurance companies. Between 30 and 50, women are more costly than men in the same age catagory. However, the insurance companies usually just keep charging men the extra nickle at all age ranges if they are single.

..at an intersection where perpendicular traffic has a stop sign and you don't

men: we have the right of way, plow through without second thoughts but keep your eye out for morons.

women: we may have the right of way but what if someone is coming from the side and they don't see us? what if he's upset and has road rage? we should stop and let them pass first, the people behind us can wait. (causes masses honking and a pile up)

Tonight's hot P&N topic:

Are women shitty drivers?

Are men's driving skills superior to women's driving skills?

Should women be allowed to operate motor vehicles in the first place or is the kitchen their rightful place?

It's here, tonight only, only at the Anandtech Politics and News Forum!

Their skills are typically, but their temperaments when young typically are not.

Should women be allowed to operate motor vehicles in the first place or is the kitchen their rightful place? Utter troll question, but good for a laugh. Now if you'll excuse me while I tell my woman to go make me a sandwich and knit me a sweater from the kitchen :)

I'll let you guys know when I get out of the dog house if I actually dared to try such an antic.

I guess it is just the way I'm raised, but I would much rather park on the the outside of a lot and walk through the rain/cold/ect than have any women/children/elders have to. I think this is a good idea at the heart, just with iffy execution.
