Just a data point on the US Debt foreign ownership.

Also, you realize that treasury bonds aren't like savings bonds, right? They cannot be redeemed before maturity.

You did not answer the question.

Is that 1.3 trillion in todays money, or what they are supposed to own in X number of years after interest?

US debt is how much we owe at maturity.

You also did not answer my question. Do you now realize that US treasuries cannot be redeemed ahead of time as savings bonds are, making your previous question nonsensical?

Anyway, I wonder aloud about how China seems to have completely ignored the disastrously planned Bush/Cheney engineered "short & sharp" shock & awe war in Iraq they started and couldn't end with all of the arrogance, shortsightedness and dismissal of reality that came with it.

I guess whatever greed causing disease Bush/Cheney shared with each other has infected the Chinese leadership and now they want to ignore their long and revered practice of thinking for the long term and fuck around with the same attitude and wishful thinking that sunk the little tub that Bush/Cheney tried to float because they both ignored the fact that to float the tub the water was supposed to be filled around the tub rather than in it.

Major difference being there is no extant population waiting to launch an insurgency. The disputed islands are little more than barren rock, once the Japanese military was neutralized, the game is over.

Gotta agree with you on that point, though methinks China's wishful thinking that they can get away with that plan of theirs without starting a quickly and rapturously escalating scenario where the exchange of words hastily gets transformed into an exchange of missiles is to put it mildly, unrealistic. 😉

a us joint navy airforce base needs to be placed on the southern coast of kyushu now. make sure it is ready to respond in a emergency. a meu would be a nice choice in addition

Liu predicted that by 2040 “China will have the power to contain the dominance of the U.S. Navy in the Pacific and Indian Oceans,”

Lol, right. They're going from a couple converted Russian hulks to something that can rival the US's state of the art carriers in twenty years?

I would be more impressed if I didn't see that picture showing that Chinas economy is the same as Texas. I mean Texas could probably take Japan but it'd be a fight.

It is different. China's military will still be shit compared to ours, but they don't need it to be as good when operating in their own backyard. I think the point is that the US won't be able to dominate china in and around the Chinese mainland then, not that we wouldn't wreck them at a neutral site.

China has such large population that if there was a war in China that Starvation could set in in a matter of weeks. China is growing a lot of crops in other countries and depends on shipping to get that food to China. China has polluted so much of its land and it is unusable for farming.

On the other hand if China no longer purchased our debt we might be bankrupt.

China could launch a 4 million man army at us though and send all their old garbage planes and whatnot at us. Can the Navy handle all that garbage coming at them or would they be overwhelmed? All that garbage mixed with their new hardware might be enough to sink our fleet and it would be worth it to them regardless of the costs.

How would they throw it at us? Like, logistically I don't see how it is possible.

We have an Air Force Base in Japan. If China has a war with Japan they will be in a war with the USA also.

Japan is a protectorate of America. Because of that treaty they cannot have much of a standing army, navy or air force.. but they do have the ability to produce some of the best war machines on the planet and in record time.
