China is a long way from home.
Different culture.
Different society.
Different rule of law.
They look different from me too.
Then I think, what if they spoke German and those folks were Jews?
A million Uighurs ... a number less than 6 million.
Chinas total poulation is in the billions. Whats a million give and take?
For profit prisons is another thing. Though I havent heard of inmates getting harvested for organs. Yet. (Trump would allow it).

Beyond the undertone of sarcasm here, I really cant settle how to feel about this.

How do you feel about it? And why?
 
If this was happening in any other country, wouldnt we, the west, be at the very least slapping massive sanctions on said country and put on maximum diplomatic pressure?
But we cant, cause we need China to produce nice things for us?
 
It's fucking disgusting and I fail to understand how anyone could feel any differently. China is trying to eliminate the Uighurs as a distinct people with their own historic ethnic and cultural identity and most of the world is going, "huh?"

Other than death camps (and I wouldn't count those out) what practical difference is there that actually matters. And, who fucking cares. What's actually important here? Is it the words used to describe an abhorrent action or is it the abhorrent action itself?

The world seems willing to do stuff like sanctions to 'less important' countries. But it's ok, nobody gives a shit about some Muslims in China. And hey, can't wait for the troops to move into Hong Kong so business can get back to normal. Fucking kids and their demands for 'freedom'.
 
Let’s be honest, if the Uighurs were Christians and not Muslims, the West wouldn’t have a conundrum choosing between human rights and trade. But, somewhere along the line of history, they picked the wrong religion for anyone to give a shit about them.

On the flip side, we’d think other Muslim majority nations might give a shit, except many of them (especially in the Middle East) don’t really have any room to lecture anyone else on human rights either.

The entire world is just sitting back and ignoring it other than the occasional forceful (lol) "tut, tut." And then, "Now, about that next contract."
 
The Chinese government is suppressing most 'foreign" religions. I know they are bulldozing christian churches. The whole world would have to sanction them to get them to wake up, and then the world economy would go into recession. The Chinese acquired a lot of economic power very quickly and they are not afraid to use it. The west stood around with their collective thumbs up their butts because their companies were racking in huge profits off of cheap goods. Great job :triumph:

How I feel about it: The Chinese government can eat a dick.

Any and all pressure we can bring to bear against them needs to be brought. Confucius institutes the world over need to be subjected to intense scrutiny if not shut down full stop. Their trade empire needs to be interfered with where possible. We need to have a conga line of warships going through the South China Sea to hammer home that these are international waters.

Communists in the end just can't help themselves: they become bloodthirsty power-obsessed monsters.

Ding ding ding. America has done similar. The Nazis did similar. And plenty of other types of governments have done similar. This is what happens when you let psychopaths have complete control of your government. Its why people are getting rightly pissed about the concentration camps that Turmp administration has been putting immigrants into. Yes, that sorta started before Turmp under Obama (which is why its right to make a fuss about that even if you can discern the differences in how they were managed, as letting it start, we see things can and generally will escalate if people don't make a big goddamn fuss about it because there's the possibility of someone with really nefarious ideas that will use it in the horrible ways we've seen it be used for).
